A Sip of Coffee Bliss @ Espressolab Ipoh Garden

December 7, 2013 | 7,295 views

Brunch @ Espressolab Ipoh Garden

Butter Croissants, Mille Crepe Cakes, Pies & their signature brew made from fresh roasted coffee beans sourced from all over the world @ Espressolab Ipoh Garden

Espressolab was established in July 2011 with emphasis beyond running retail cafes. The full story can be read from that link, but safe to say that their best bet is the coffee (served in all manners imaginable; espresso, macchiato, cappucino, latte, piccolo latte, mocha, etc) and to some extent, their cakes.

Espressolab Ipoh Garden started operating a few months ago; taking over the premise of the previous Aussino (FYI, the cafe is still run by the same owner of Aussino; talk about diversifying your business), which in place was Dai Fang coffee shop few years back. A rather risky choice of location; as compared to the usual safer route of picking shopping malls for their other retail operations over in Klang Valley.

Taking a break from the Hong Kong & Macau 2013 stories, Motormouth is kicking back in Ipoh; relenting to temptations of this lazy, charming hometown of mine.  Read the rest of this entry »

JJ Lifestyle Cafe @ Jalan Kampar, Ipoh

August 3, 2013 | 14,862 views

Brunch @ JJ Cafe

Kick back. Read a book. Tap on your iPad. Or plain stuff yourself silly with luscious selection of sandwiches, cakes and a cup of freshly-brewed coffee in hand. If this is what Saturday means to you ….. then we are mates.

“What does a Saturday mean to you?”

Do you find yourself constantly looking forward to the weekend? When you feel that it’s highly vital to recharge that dead batteries deep within you? When the week inches closer to TGIF, the heart starts to pump a little bit more thanks to the extra doses of adrenaline flowing in your vessels and your eyes lit up with thoughts of pure rejuvenation and delicious food?

Welcome to the club! As much as we think that we are invincible; and capable of withstanding the turbulent storm (in every sense of the word), it doesn’t hurt to just stop dead on your tracks, look back and find solace in the little things that you have grown to love.

Egg Mayo Charcoal Sandwich, Latte & Flavoured Milk

Another all-day, lifestyle cafe peppered with whimsical bits and quirky elements?

Here’s a story on a new kid in town (more like outskirts of town); JJ Lifestyle Cafe from the same people who brought you JJ Cakes; the bakery that infused life back to plain old, boring Swiss rolls.

The Eventual Mille Crepe Experience @ Food Foundry, Section 17

July 2, 2011 | 31,056 views

Mille Crepe Cakes @ Food Foundry

Strawberry, Vanilla and Chocolate Mille Crepe Cakes @ Food Foundry; Your Neighbourhood Food Provider in Section 17, Petaling Jaya.

Almost immediately after the dinner at My Elephant, we ventured over to Food Foundry to fulfill our intention for desserts and coffee; having in mind the preliminary perception that the latter would be a comfortable, swanky cafe perfect for an extended chat. It was a horrendously warm evening; and the spicy Tom Yum from My Elephant contributed much to the beads of sweat forming on our foreheads.

Food Foundry‘s tagline is “Your Neighbourhood Food Provider”. Never pretentious enough to suggest that they’re a fine diner, a bistro or cafe, or even a restaurant.

And they’re just that. No air-conditioning, they’re situated on the ground level of B block of Happy Mansion flats occupying two lots separated completely from each other by a wall adorned with a large mirror, with walls painted with quirky/colourful birds and trees and exuding a very laid-back aura.

Motormouth in Malacca Again (Finale) – Donald & Lilly’s, Cottage Spices, Tengkera Nyonya Kuih, Nadeje Patisserie

January 6, 2010 | 48,162 views

Continuation from previous chapter of Motormouth in Malacca Again (Part One) ….

Tang House Melaka - Breakfast

That Portuguese seafood feast was somewhat disastrous, but given the dire state of my gut at that very moment, I would be balking at the sight of, say ….  Lobsters, Alaskan King Crabs, or even Bluefin Tuna.

The very next morning, after some serious deliberation, I agreed to a ‘light’ breakfast at our guesthouse – Tang House. Breakfast is provided FOC for your information, to guests only. Though we saw many outsiders, even construction workers from a nearby area having their leisurely-paced breakfast at the cafe, for the pricing is rather reasonable. Even comparable to the average coffee shops, with drinks priced at below RM2.

I had an Egg Burger, which was an omelette sandwiched between an Apollo bun, that most nostalgic wave washing over me all of a sudden. I could imagine the ancestor seated on the very same stool, biting into his Apollo bun with kaya and butter decades ago. Morbid thought?

Ayam Pongteh @ Donald & Lilly's

The day started with a second breakfast (yeah, THAT fast although I was already half-repulsive at that thought) at Donald & Lily’s, a small charming outlet situated at the back of Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, within walking distance from the centre of Melaka town, the Jonker Walk area.

Melaka – Thousand Layers Cake?! (Nadeje Patisserie) & Popiah (With Lard!)

January 6, 2009 | 14,532 views
After the carnivorous meal at Jalan Bunga Raya, we (pathetically) tried to shave off the pounds and calories (as well as guilt!) by strolling around, amidst the rather sunny weather. Melaka is a small town, perfect for walking around leisurely, appreciating the nostalgic ambience of the classical town. Penang’s Georgetown’s the other classified World Heritage site, bearing a striking resemblance in terms of architecture and influences.
The battered and rebuilt fortress of A Famosa – THE epitome of Melaka

Random shots of the town and the river

This time around we skipped most of the tourist spots, as our main aim was to eat and shop. OK, more to the former than the latter. 🙂
