I understand that the Hakka Yong Tau Foo (Old Town opp. fountain) is still operating. My favourite in my younger days. yeung tau foo will be sold out first. Need some coverage over ‘siew yoke’ as I thought Ipoh may have the best. Those days Swatow near the Central market has the best (until burnt down). Brother still operating nearby I thought. But the list is quite a good one.

ultimately .. this is the ULTIMATE LIST ! woohoo:) nice one..

erm, can put geh … but given the fact that Yee Hup can be found even in KL, and they’re rather commercialized now, I doubt I need to write about them again.
not to mention I like those traditional style of Heong Peng more, broiled with coconut husks.
[Reply]
Wah!!! You actually compile the list??? Good… now I definitely know how whom to call or contact when I go to Perak in the near future!! Hahaha…

[Reply]
thanks for the list…. now thinking of printing it out and whenever my family is undecided on where to dine, can simply throw a dart onto the list and it will pick the dining outlet for the day
just a suggestion for you to add “your favourite” symbol to whichever outlet is recommended so that outstation guys will know which outlet to focus their food trip on.

yeah true also. thinking of doing that, but wondering how to put the icon leh?
hmmm … lemme work something out.
but taste is subjective though.

D-Tourist Reply:

just label it “ur favourite” and not “good/must try”…. so if anyone do not this the taste is to their liking, then its a matter of personal preference

Amazing list!! The Ipoh tourism folks should take yr cue and print this list for all visitors (royalties accorded of course!)!! But unrealistic to cover this in one visit… it almost looks like we need to arrange for month-long eating residencies in Ipoh!

Every visit to Ipoh is never complete without the pasembor from the kopitiam next to the Ipoh Padang. I can’t believe it is not on your list! DO try it and let us know what you think. The kopitiam also does passable kon loh curry noodles if I am not mistaken.

hi KP. previously, that stall sells a killer of a Pasembor. but lately I felt that the quality has dropped.
do consider the Pasembor sold at a corner coffee shop named Beauty Baru on Jalan Yang Kalsom.
the Mee Goreng is fantastic as well! opens frmo 12pm onwards. lunch only.
the curry noodles man is a Hainanese himself.
I blogged about the noodles sometime back then.
the shop is called Fatt kee.

i have a cafe to recommend although might not be to ur likings. It’s a small cafe called ‘My Inn Cafe’ at Pengkalan. (next to KFC). You can have a try there. The resume of the chef on the menu shows he is experienced. Went there first time last week with my family as we were craving for western food. The food is not bad with quite big portion. Service is excellent, pricing is reasonable, ambience is good. Just another recommendation!

Hey there 500k!!! Pasir Pinji CCF is of course, one of the ones on my list. But then again … the waiting, the reservations, and the waiting (whoops .,.. did I repeat myself?) proves to be too tedious.
Someday, I promise.
Last time I used to stay within walking distance to the house, hence we would order and went home to rest. Instead of jostling with the crowd, standing around like “jaga”s….
[Reply]
Kam Kee opposite Lou Wong/Onn Kee has very good sea food noodles, kap tai (pork) noodles, fish paste and vinegar pig’s trotters. My favourite. You should go try.
[Reply]
Wow! A very impressive listing. This will be my eating bible on my next trip to good ole Ipoh. Thanks a million.

Wasabe at iCasuarina is a wash out for me when i went there for lunch with my friends last week. Selection is terrible and the food can’t even be said as ok. Their way of ordering sashimi is rubbish and after a few orders the portions become smaller and lesser. Never will i go back again. Other people, please beware. It’s better to go to Sushi King and use the same amount of money for what you wanna eat for the same type of quality.

My suggestion to include a few malay restaurant which is not in your list yet.
Restaurant Tasek Raban (near Ipoh Stadium),
Nasi Lemak Ayam Kampung ( Jln Yang Kalsom Ipoh),
My Warung ( Jln Kuala kangsar -Tasek)
[Reply]
one more..Ipoh Padang Rojak Pasembor..the very famous one!! next to Old Town Kopitiam (ipoh Old town)

How about the Pork Noodles of Chong Yin in Ipoh Garden and Kim Keei in Town near to Lou Wong. There is also a very nice Wan Tan Noodles stall opposite Lou Wong that is inside a shop who is also selling Salted Chicken.
Do try them out !

Hi D-Tourist, sorry forgot reply your comment here.
I have a long, long story to tell about Kampai, but most of the times we were there, the pics did not turn out clear for the low lighting really took its toll on my poor camphone (back then) and even my LX3.
Someday I promise. Kampai holds a very, very dear place in my heart.
