Every Moment Is A Strawberry Moment (Dessert Cafe @ De Garden, Ipoh)

October 26, 2010 | 12,176 views

Strawberry Strudel

Strawberry Strudel (RM29.90/USD9.70 for Whole, RM7.50/USD2.40 per slice)

Back in the end of May 2010, we went on an excursion to Cameron Highlands; and thus were duly introduced (albeit rather late) to Strawberry Moment Dessert Cafe in the town of Brinchang. Cool breeze and crisp, fresh air marks a pleasant respite from the hectic/routine lifestyle on the lowlands; punctuated with a delightful array of strawberry desserts and beverages.

Interior of Strawberry Moment Dessert Cafe

A spacious, bright and airy ambience with a chic finish; designed by one of the owner herself. Even the menu was designed in-house, further saving up on the operational cost.

Then they decided to branch out from their two outlets in Cameron Highlands, bringing the taste of their delectable desserts and signature creations (especially their commanding Strudels) down to Ipoh. A smart choice, considering the fact that back then, De Garden was devoid of a proper hangout spot for desserts and drinks, save for Pappa Rich.

An astonishing number of desserts (more than 20 types) dominate their menu, with emphasis on desserts made with fresh fruits (majority of them with strawberries; of course), chocolates (from their very own chocolate factory in Cameron Highlands named Avant), and various beverages including Illy coffee, fresh juices, milk shakes, and tea.

Oh Sushi Japanese Restaurant @ De Garden, Ipoh

Sashimi Moriawase Hanzo

Sashimi Moriawase Hanzo (RM56.00/USD17) – An enticing platter of fresh and thick cuts of raw fishes and boiled shrimps presented on a bed of shaved ice, with a cube of grated wasabi

I have to confess. The sudden onslaught of new eateries sprouting up in Ipoh surprised me, and my apologies for the delayed reviews of such places. For a variety of reasons (excuses?) of course.

One being the bane of spanking new outlets; pathetic level of service & mediocre/inconsistent quality of food. Not to mention the unacceptably long waiting time for your food to be presented on your table.

Another reason being of course; the procrastinating factor. Dear readers; I am but a mere mortal without a designated gang of ‘makan kaki’ (wanna sign up?) ….. and I do not own a gold mine, or one blessed with a silver gold platinum spoon in my (motor) mouth. All the food reviews on this blog are paid for with cold hard cash dripping with blood, sweat and tears.

Inside of Oh Sushi

Oh Sushi – A very pleasant dining environment amidst the team of affable staff, soft hums of classic Japanese tunes emitting from the speakers, and endless colourful plates of fresh sushi on the kaiten belt.

Cut the crap and let’s move on to the review of the day. One for the weekend, so to speak.

Oh Sushi Japanese Restaurant launched their maiden outlet in Ipoh recently, at De Garden; a hub of retail outlets largely populated with chain eateries (you can read my reviews of Pappa Rich, Ayam Penyet, Wong Kok Char Chan Teng, Tutti Frutti Frozen Yoghurt and TOS Coffee Bistro by clicking THIS LINK) situated next to Jusco Kinta City.

The name sounds familiar? Because this is the SAME Oh Sushi @ Midvalley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur, another pet project of the Kubota Japanese Restaurant group. Read on to find out how Oh Sushi stacked up against their adversaries; the other independent and chain Japanese restaurants in Ipoh …… Read the rest of this entry »

Strawberry Moment Dessert Cafe @ Cameron Highlands

Ice Baby

Ice Baby (RM11.90/USD3.60) – A cross between the ice blended beverage and the milkshake

Refer to the previous post on Strawberry Park Resort & Cameron Valley Tea Shop for a better idea on why Motormouth’s everywhere in the month of May.

Strawberry Strudel

Strawberry Strudel (RM7.50/USD2.30) – Easily their most popular signature item off their rather extensive ‘strawberry-fied’ menu

Given the lapse of time between two consecutive events, we were somewhat stuck at a crossroad of decisions. Either sleep in throughout the 5 hours allocated for absolutely nothing-at-all, OR take up the Cameron Highlands day tour offer (few hours, at most) that covered most of the farms, gardens, tea plantations, etc.

Or better yet, go for a random drive around town(s) to seek for good grubs in-between meals, immersing oneself in the mesmerizing scenery, and embracing the cool breeze (or lack thereof?) of the highlands. Hence, we stopped over for a brief moment at Strawberry Moment Dessert Cafe in Brinchang town for some sweet delights. Read the rest of this entry »
