San Francisco Steakhouse @ Coliseum Square, Ipoh

May 22, 2010 | 3,767 views | 56 Comments »

A short one for the weekend …

In the spirits of NEW chain outlets springing up in Ipoh (just like mushrooms sprouting after the rain; “Bagai Cendawan Tumbuh Selepas Hujan?” :) ), San Francisco Steakhouse arrived in Ipoh without much fanfare recently.

Swiss Mushroom Burger

A thick slab of minced beef patty sandwiched between toasted sesame buns, with a slice of melted cheese, onions, tomatoes and lettuce in between. The serving of Swiss mushrooms was surprisingly on the side, instead of sandwiched between the buns; like pictured in the menu.

Under the same umbrella companies of Tai Thong Group of Restaurants, (other notable eateries include Room Eighteen, Santini Italian Restaurant, and of course; the 798 Public House & Royal China Chinese restaurant located adjacent to San Francisco Steakhouse here), San Francisco Steakhouse (SFS) started with a few branches in the Klang Valley …. Cafe Takahashi’s New Menu & Pappa Rich @ De Garden, Ipoh

February 13, 2010 | 1,410 views | 13 Comments »

How’s the CNY preparation going? Reached your boiling point yet?Or you’re still playing cool cucumber, and neglecting the chores, the cooking, the cleaning and … the shopping.

Whatever it is, DO NOT forget the eating. Hahaha … coz that’s what people do during the festive seasons, and live to regret the binge right after the celebrations. Oh well … a continuous spiral of gluttony, then crash diet, then foodhunting again …….

Cafe Takahashi @ Jusco Kinta City

Cafe Takahashi @ Jusco Kinta City, Ipoh

Sometime ago, I wrote about this new Japanese fusion cafe in Jusco Kinta City, when it first opened its door back in the middle of 2009. Combining elements of traditional Japanese cuisine and modernized ‘kissaten’ (Japanese cafe) concept, Cafe Takahashi has seen its following building up as time goes by, and even has a Facebook fan page of their own now.

Macoy European Restaurant @ Greentown Square, Ipoh

February 9, 2010 | 2,372 views | 24 Comments »

Macoy European Restaurant opened its door recently at Greentown Square in Ipoh without much fanfare nor publicity. Seriously, if you’re not one who travels the stretch of road passing in front of Greentown Square (the business centre housing David’s Diner, and Restoran Simpang Tiga) then you probably would not be aware of this spanking new European style diner in Ipoh. How new you ask? Less than a week old, apparently.

Pepper Beer Steak with Garlic

The interior decoration of the restaurant looked sparse, with none of those fancy bells nor whistles. You might even flick this off as just another fine-diner wannabe, with mid to high-end pricing but lacking in substance, courteous service and most disastrous of all, pathetic food.

Until ….. you glance at the menu written with chalk on the boards hanging on the wall. Two blackboards only, by the way. 24 items for the time being, from starters such as French Onion Soup and Tiger Prawns with Garlic Butter, to various meats such as lamb, steak and poultry. The seafood selection sounds lovely in its own right, with dominant use of tiger prawns, sole fillets, and even salmon steak.

The Fairway @ Royal Perak Golf Club, Ipoh

September 20, 2009 | 1,895 views | 18 Comments »

(UPDATED 25/4/2010) – Here’s an e-mail from the management of The Fairway. Guess this will clear all the doubts.

Dear Editor,
We highly appreciate your valuable reviews about our restaurant. We are here to clarify, that we are indeed open to public. While making payments, our staffs will ask guests for the membership card, because members will get discounts for dinning in.

Thank you again for the effort to promote our restaurant and introducing Ipoh for the name of “The Heaven for good food’. Well Done!!!

Thank you.

Royal Perak Golf Club

The Fairway is a brand new restaurant in Royal Perak Golf Club (RPGC) in Ipoh, under the same management umbrella of MP (which is operating two other outlets in Ipoh, both in Greentown). If you’re wondering, should you apply for a membership before being granted access to the restaurants? (Kizuna  One is the other, serving Japanese food – which coincidentally, has its roots back in the original Kizuna over at Ipoh Garden East.) Rest assured that you can save up to RM27k (!!!) for the exclusive membership, and still waltz in with pride, and dine like no other.

Tony Roma’s Ribs, Seafood and Steaks @ Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur

April 19, 2009 | 691 views | 29 Comments »
Since lately I’ve been posting haphazardly, with most posts hanging without an ending, and the words “to be continued ….” rather misleading and somewhat abused, I pledge to conclude all the infamous sagas, before starting anew.
Good. With that out of my chest, let’s backtrack slightly to the Moussandra post and move on from there, shall we?
Privacy ensured in the sense that the high seats hinder the nosy neighbours from prying on your meal … or eavesdropping on your conversation. =P
Since the last visit to Tony Roma’s was sometime during the Jurassic age (ie : when they opened their 1st outlet in Pavilion, and offering ‘cheap’ set lunches from RM16.90 onwards), I proposed (no, not THAT form of proposing) to have dinner at Tony Roma’s over at Pavilion, again. Of course, I can’t be selfish since the other 4 pretties (loosely used term, this one) have not stepped into the joint yet.
Fish & Chips (RM26.90)
