Sun And Sun Restaurant @ Bandar Baru Tambun, Ipoh

April 12, 2010 | 5,689 views

UPDATED August 1st 2010 – The kitchen staff of Sun And Sun has moved to the opposite side, to a restaurant named Splendid. So if you’re looking for the same ‘chu char’ dishes, hop over to Restoran Splendid instead. Address at the end of the post.

Oyster Omelette

Crispy Or Chien aka Oyster Omelette (RM7/USD2) @ Sun And Sun – You can imagine the crunch, then the grease …..

It’s Monday. So I’ll be kind and leave you with a short, short post.

Yeah right …… 🙂

Anyway, this is a neighbourhood restaurant that does great ‘chu char’ (Chinese dishes with rice) in Ipoh Garden East. Named Sun And Sun (catchy name, huh?), the restaurant can get really packed on weekends and public holidays, especially come peak hours; 7pm-8pm. So either be there early, or late, or call to reserve a table beforehand. Not sure if this is feasible, but since we’ve been dining there a lot, and taking away dishes on the other days, the lady is really, really accommodating to our needs.

Pan Fish with Sambal Petai

Clever combination huh? Sizzling fish fillets on pan, with spicy sambal petai (RM12/USD3.40)

And best of all, not only do they come up with different dishes every now and then (NO menu though, so have fun jump-starting the waiter’s/waitress’ memory!), the prices of the dishes is mind-blowingly cheap.

Yes, I doubt you can still eat out for less than RM10 per person in most Chu Char restaurants in Ipoh, save for the very few exceptions. (Peng Tau in Pasir Puteh comes to mind, even listed amongst one of my 2009’s Top Eats).

Peng Heong Hakka Paikut Restaurant @ Klang

September 16, 2009 | 11,881 views

Peng Heong Hakka Paikut Restaurant in Klang takes pride in its impressive 16 years run in the gourmet scene, previously operating at a stall on Lorong Gudang Nanas in Klang. The humble stall has since into its own premise, a corner lot on the same road off Jalan Pasar in Klang.

The exceptionally tender, almost melts-in-mouth texture of the spare ribs marinated and served with a sweetish gravy – Spare Ribs King, no doubt.

“Paikut” refers to spare ribs, and at Peng Heong, their signature Spare Ribs King is a boneless fillet of tender pork served in a variety of portions. Priced from RM6, onwards for a serving, one can opt for the bigger portions at RM8, RM10 and RM20 respectively, proportional to the chunks of meat served with their traditionally-concocted sweet and savoury sauce.

Sun Marpoh Restaurant in Ipoh – Lingering Memories from My Childhood

August 11, 2009 | 17,995 views

I was practically trained to recognize my foods, & developing my raw, untrained tastebuds since early childhood days. I lived in Pasir Puteh in Ipoh since I was born, then subsequently moving to my current home (cannot disclose location … scared got stalkers! LOL.) for about 15 years now.

Yup, I’m an ancient brontosaurus from the Jurassic era. So what? I can still chew on the fats, and bite on the bones. HA!!

Gigantic, crispy & tempting deep-fried pork hand (zhu sau) served with the thick, gooey sauce

Back then, I was already munching on sweet and sour pork, lemon chicken, sambal petai and whatever else that was considered ‘hot’ back then. Of course, no salted egg chicken/prawns/squids/crabs, nor ‘Yin Yang kailan’, or ‘Nai Yau’ (Butter Cream Sauce) this & that. Read the rest of this entry »
