Just like stepping into a time warp. Transported back into the late 70′s?

Had enough of Indulgence? Okay, here’s a short post on Hainan Chicken Rice in Ipoh. As awkward as this may sound, I believe this is my FIRST post on chicken rice in Ipoh. This, albeit the fact that Ipoh’s famous for “Nga Choy Kai” (Bean Sprouts Chicken), and there are actually more than a handful of good and popular chicken rice outlets in Ipoh.

On one hand we have the famous Rasa Sayang and Pak Gong on Jalan Theatre in town, next to the famous Eastern Wine. Then a short hop and skip away, you will find the double shoplots named Hainan Chicken Rice near to the perennial starlet of a stall serving Buntong beef noodles named Kedai Makanan dan Minuman Sri Maju.

So how come I have never heard of Hin Loong Hainan Chicken Rice, until DT mentioned about this place over at the All About Ipoh page? Read the rest of this entry »

One half of the famous Twin Sisters curry mee on Jalan Ali Pitchay in Ipoh – Still as elegant and energetic as ever in their golden years …..

Let’s do a breakfast post today. Since tomorrow’s a Sunday, and most (I hope all) of you will be off from work, and seeking to start the day with a brilliant breakfast with family members.

Unsurprisingly, the dim sum restaurants around Ipoh will be swarmed like bees to the honey, shopaholics to a mega sale or even politicians to the allure of money voters.

Rolls of fish paste covered with beancurd sheets (foo chook) deep fried to a crunchy finish.

If you are around town area and the prospect of waiting for a table AND possibly facing the wrath of the staff at Xin Quan Fang (that legendary “Ma Ta Liu”/police station’s curry mee on Hugh Low Street) sounds unforgiving, no sweat.

A hop and a skip away (though you have to skip backwards, or go one big round for Hugh Low Street /Jalan Sultan Iskandar is a one way street) you will find an equally as long-standing curry mee specialist, yet not as notorious for the attitude and hogged by the media or guide books – Twin Sisters Food Stall on Jalan Ali Pitchay.

Not the most generous of portion, but this plate of Nasi Lemak Kukus (freshly steamed rice with coconut milk) with pieces of fried Ayam Kampung (free-range chicken) got tongues wagging for years now …

This place, named Restoran Nasi Lemak Ayam Kampung on Jalan Ali Pitchay has been the talk of the town (Ipoh town, of course) for about 7 years or so now. Previously operating from their original outlet situated on the next street (Jalan Che Tak), they moved to this spanking new, much more spacious premise to cater to the growing clientele.

Opens only for dinner/supper daily, Nasi Lemak Ayam Kampung also prides on their freshly-grilled/fried seafood, especially their famous Ketam Masak Serbuk Kari or Stir-fried Crabs with Curry Powder

In reality, this was my first visit to the restaurant. Yes, after repeated reminders, guilt-ridden porky affairs that led to a serious lack of ‘Halal’ food posts, and of course …. procrastination, a Motormouth’s trademark !!
