Estuary Grouper Fish Ball Noodles

Dry Yee Mee with Fish Balls & Fish Cakes (RM5.50/USD1.80) @ Min Yee Fish Ball Noodles Stall, Mei Keng Coffee Shop, off Jalan 222, Petaling Jaya

Happy Monday dear folks! And a Happy New Year to all. Not easy to get back into the groove of things; the steady (laborious, mundane) rhythm of work after a long break. This being the start of a full 5 days working week (shock! horror!), I guess most of us are still in dreamland, Christmas mood or probably wishing for another bowl of Tang Yuen (Winter Solstice was on 22 Dec, btw).

Anyway, the year started on the opposite side of a high note for Motormouth however. Down with slight fever and sore throat on the first day itself, followed by some rather disturbing news from home … Grandma got admitted two nights ago.

It’s not uncommon for me to share life stories way back in 2008 or 2009, but ever since then, rarely do readers observe Motormouth rambling about life’s finer details and mishaps. Like in the words of a fellow reader; has Motormouth gone commercialised?

Maybe. Maybe not. But rest assured that the delicious food shots and reviews will still come in rapid-fire style. Happy 2014. And let’s hop over to a breakfast spot in Petaling Jaya that I have taken a strong liking to.

Of Familiar Breakfast in Ipoh & Featured in TimeOut Malaysia 2013/2014

Simee Market Fish Ball Noodles

A breakfast fare that’s very common in Ipoh; fish ball noodles (yue dan fun, or liew fun) is actually an ensemble of plain noodles (served either with soup or dry/tossed with sauces) and a side serving of fish balls, various stuffed fish paste pieces and the very essential garlic chili sauce.

It has become slightly more routine nowadays to eat out during breakfast compared to my growing years in Ipoh; when we would settle for a simpler breakfast of tea and breads. Maybe it’s thanks to this space of mine on the Web (gradually inching towards its 6 years now!), or the fact that Ipoh does offer an astounding array of quality hawker fares.

It boils down to a matter of preference, but one of my favourite choice for breakfast? Fish ball noodles or ‘liew fun’. Simple, hearty and very comforting spread of noodles, yong tau foo and the chili sauce.

Oh ya … let’s not forget the icing on the cake; a cup of white coffee.

If legacy or experience is what you’re seeking for, then this nameless stall at Simee market would be right up your alley. Read the rest of this entry »
