San Francisco Steakhouse @ Coliseum Square, Ipoh

May 22, 2010 | 3,767 views | 56 Comments »

A short one for the weekend …

In the spirits of NEW chain outlets springing up in Ipoh (just like mushrooms sprouting after the rain; “Bagai Cendawan Tumbuh Selepas Hujan?” :) ), San Francisco Steakhouse arrived in Ipoh without much fanfare recently.

Swiss Mushroom Burger

A thick slab of minced beef patty sandwiched between toasted sesame buns, with a slice of melted cheese, onions, tomatoes and lettuce in between. The serving of Swiss mushrooms was surprisingly on the side, instead of sandwiched between the buns; like pictured in the menu.

Under the same umbrella companies of Tai Thong Group of Restaurants, (other notable eateries include Room Eighteen, Santini Italian Restaurant, and of course; the 798 Public House & Royal China Chinese restaurant located adjacent to San Francisco Steakhouse here), San Francisco Steakhouse (SFS) started with a few branches in the Klang Valley …. A 7″ Thick Vegas Full House Burger @ Vegas Kitchen, Kampar

May 5, 2010 | 1,583 views | 25 Comments »

Vegas Full House Burger

Vegas Full House Burger (RM11.50/USD3.60) – A monstrous of a calorie-laden horror, featuring two patties (a chicken and a beef), ham and cheese, a fried egg, and loaded with greens to balance out the guilt, in a most futile manner. :)

Wait, before you go screaming “NOOOOOOOOOooooooooo ……….. !!!! You moved AWAY from Ipoh?!!!!“, let me clarify this. I am STILL safe and sound in the comfort of my home here in Ipoh, but the frequency of posts on food from around Perak (ie: The Teluk Intan Food Tour, Kampar’s Curry Chicken Bread and now THIS post) might be slightly disturbing, I know.

After all, those who have been following this blog since my blogspot days would have known that my work requires much travelling, hence sometimes you don’t get to read about Ipoh food in a week or more.

Vegas Kitchen with Obama Picture

Good for them, Democrats exist in Kampar of Perak?! ;)

I first read about Vegas Kitchen @ Taman Bandar Baru of Kampar (no doubt, THE most happening place to be in Kampar, perpetually packed with youngsters from UTAR (Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman) and locals around the residential areas, as well as tourists staying in Grand Kampar Hotel) from Live To Eat’s blog not too long ago.

Hence when the opportunity knocked on our doors this afternoon, we omitted the ideas of eating in Kampar market once again, nor searching high and low for food in Kampar old town. We hurried over to Bandar Baru Kampar on our way back to Ipoh, and made some rounds before stopping at Vegas Kitchen; a corner lot within spitting distance from Grand Kampar Hotel.

Bali Day 5 – Pork Ribs @ Nuri’s Warung, Cafe Wayan, Sanur Beach & Denpasar Monument

December 13, 2009 | 1,958 views | 30 Comments »

For the full chapter-by-chapter accounts of my Bali trip back in October of 2009, click HERE.

I am seriously in need of some discipline. One whole month has passed since I last posted something with regards to my Bali trip two months ago. I know, I know. Procrastination’s one of my ‘stronger’ points no doubt, but have you ever experienced those days when you felt that enough is enough, and you’d rather tie those loose ends and be done with it?

Denpasar Monument

Through the gap, I saw light shining from beyond … @ Bajra Sandhi Monument, Denpasar, Bali

And now, my dear friends, the time draws nigh for the next chapter in the saga. We’re still on Day 5, by the way, after we shopped at Sukawati Art Market, strolled around the grounds of Goa Gajah, and then visited the infamously crammed with traffic city of Denpasar, the capital of Bali.

Banjra Sandhi Monument @ Denpasar, Bali

We passed by a grand structure of a monument in the midst of a spacious field in the city centre of Denpasar, and good old Komang Triawan (our driver for the whole journey, for your information) explained that the Bajra Sandhi Monument is one of Denpasar’s landmark, but to enter the interior vicinity of the grounds, one has to pay. Okaaaayyy ….. But wait, there were so many people prancing around on the green fields stretching for hundreds of metres surrounding the monument, in their most recreational modes. To which Mr Komang answered, Oh, we could walk around the fields FOC, but could not step inside the gated area of the monument. Fine with us, for we were in no mood to climb the stairs nor perform our prayers anyway.

OM Burger @ Ampang – Who Says Sloppy Can’t Be Tasty?

May 10, 2009 | 570 views | 39 Comments »
Worked my a$$ off during the weekend, again. Slept the whole noon off today, and woke up to realise the weekend’s gone in a flash …. Sigh. There’s always a silver lining behind every cloud, light at the end of the tunnel, sunshine after the rain, right? If there ever is, I’ll give an arm and a leg to know what and where’s the light, the lining and the rays.

The mysterious connection between burger stalls and 7-11. The devil’s pact?

Finally here’s something from KL for a difference. For those uninitiated, I’m still living and working in Ipoh, and the travel posts of late are backlogs from previous excursions either for work, or for play.

Da Man, OM and Da Lady, erm … OMa? =P
This unassuming Ramly burger stall (or ‘warung’ in Malay) is NOT your average burger stall. It’s been sometime since I’ve tasted burgers from roadside stalls, but this one has to be the ICING on the cake, CREAM of the crop, if you will. Normally, it’s tough to differentiate a Ramly burger from the others, as most wannabes/hopefuls operate their stalls in the most generic of ways; Following others blindly.
