High Tea Buffet; Doin’ It Thai-Style @ Impiana Hotel, Ipoh

October 9, 2012 | 8,211 views

Thai Extravaganza @ Impiana Hotel Ipoh

And yeah, you read the title right. This ain’t no mere Thai buffet lunch or dinner. But this promotion runs in tandem with Impiana’s famous weekend high tea buffet. Hence, the Thai-High-Tea fusion! Imagine piping hot Tom Yum Goong, sweet Mango Glutinous Rice with Coconut Milk, the Coffee House’s signature ‘pisang goreng’ (banana fritters) and ‘cucur udang’ (prawn, scallions and onion fritters), and D-I-Y ‘ais kacang’ being featured in the same buffet spread!

The Thai Food Extravaganza runs for only 2 weeks at Impiana Hotel, Ipoh; from 5th until 19th October 2012. Featuring delicious Thai signatures like tom yam goong (Tom Yum Soup with Prawns), massaman nua (beef in massaman curry), gai phad prik tai dum (stir fried chicken in black pepper), gaeng kiew waan goong (prawns in green curry), pla mauk thod kra tiam (deep fried marinated squid with garlic), roasted lamb leg with thyme flavoured garden vegetables and pla saam rod (deep fried fish in 3 taste sauce).

Wanna know how YOU can win holiday vouchers from Impiana Chaweng Noi, Koh Samui? Read on.

Antipasti Buffet @ Spasso Milano, Jalan Ampang

April 23, 2011 | 7,941 views

Antipasto means ‘before the meal’ in Italian. Antipasti is the plural form of the same word. And these are generally served as the first course; starters if you will, to the Italian feast lying thereafter. And here at Spasso Milano, they took the initiative to place antipasti under the spotlight ….

-An Antipasti Buffet for RM18++, and additional RM3++ for a main of your choice-

Desserts

Array of desserts; tangy lemon tarts sliced in quarters, Panna cotta (that I tragically missed because I was too obsessed with the savouries) and the chocolate cake that was partly tiramisu?

Witch was the one setting us up. In a good way, of course. Was supposed to adjourn to some other place for brunch … The Deli @ Micasa, but changed plan almost at the last minute. Good alternative though, for RM18++ is a darn value-for-money strategy to sample various appetizers laid out on the buffet table.

Of Steamboat & Farewells @ K-Kai Corner, Jalan Lahat, Ipoh

February 26, 2011 | 17,834 views

Boiled Crabs

“Hairy Crabs we ain’t, but can you resist even the most flesh-less of us; when you’re eating from a buffet spread of BBQ and steamboat delights?”(K-Kai Corner @ Jalan Lahat, Ipoh)

And before I got thrown Molotov cocktails (or grenades, but erm, I can catch one?), let me explain the tardiness that resulted in this post being written WAY past the initial deadline.

Or lack thereof. Just like how good food bloggers (ahem, me excluded, so once again, don’t throw fireballs) should be organizing their pictures into folders; neatly arranged into archives in a chronological manner, I faltered miserably in this aspect.

Instead, this whole barrage of farewell shots were grouped into a separate folder; almost like neglected orphans screaming for attention but yet did not succeed in capturing this paternal half’s undivided attention. For months now. And to imagine this farewell-cum-celebration was actually organized in conjunction with our ‘departures’ from the service.

To be able to finally see the Light at the end of the Tunnel, perhaps?

Why Got Smoke

“TallGal’s fuming finger of fury unleashed after 4 years of being chained without the freedom she deserves ……”

Let’s just keep reading the rest of this senseless entry. It’s an erratic Saturday for me, so bear with the insanity ….. Read the rest of this entry »

Weekend High Tea Buffet @ Tower Regency Hotel, Ipoh

December 28, 2010 | 25,686 views

Towering Tower Regency

Tower Regency Hotel @ Ipoh – Hands down one of the best hotel Ipoh has to offer. Spanking new (couldn’t be more than two years?), well-designed, and at a prime location at that.

It’s been ages since we last dined at any restaurants in hotels of Ipoh. Last I remembered we had a very cheap buffet lunch at Syuen Hotel; for less than RM15 per person (yeah, dirt cheap right?) but of course lah … you get what you pay for. Not exactly bad, for you get the usual appetizers, soups, rice and noodles, a few meats and several vegetable dishes, as well as a DIY Ais Kacang counter and some local delights of kuih-muih.

But that was WAY back then … I think sometime beginning of last year. And not sure where I stashed those pictures, or did I even take any photos. Doubtful that they’re still running the same promotion as of now; what’s with all the increase in cost of living, inflation and the imminent preparation for something BIG come next year (you know the drill … Malaysia ma ...).

Decor Inside of Cafe@6, Tower Regency

Cafe@6 on the 6th floor (lame?) of Tower Regency Hotel – High Tea Buffet on Fridays and weekends only; for RM16/USD5.20 per person. Talk about being affordable?

And since we have run out of place for a last minute gathering, we settled for an impromptu (almost) high tea session at Tower Regency Hotel’s Cafe@6. Only on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. Can’t say this was the BEST high tea buffet in Ipoh, since I have not tried many others save for Casuarina and Excelsior WAY back then ……. but read on to see what they offer and whether the RM16‘s worth the effort. Kick Start the New Year with A Burp?!

December 18, 2010 | 4,141 views

Fresh Oysters in Abundance

Fresh oysters on the Rocks – Go crazy on these and guaranteed satisfaction. In every sense of the word.

I once stayed at Holiday Villa Subang, sometime back in 2008 or 2009. Good experience though, still remember how spacious the room was, and the easy access to everywhere around PJ and Subang. That experience (back when I was still with the civil service) was definitely one of the better ones throughout my tenure in the service. If you’ve been following this blog since 2008, you would have realized that travelling’s part of the job. (To some extent … eating as well)

Anyway, fast forward a couple of years and here I am, stranded relocated to the almighty madhouse that is Kuala Lumpur. But good to know that I am in good company, surrounded by foodies with a deep passion and penchant for everything and anything edible. 🙂

Grilled Lamb over Spitfire

From the look of it, this poor baby ain’t gonna miss his Mama too long …..

Holiday Villa Hotel & Resort Suites Subang (that’s the full name, btw) recently held a tasting session for the media; launching their inaugural New Year’s EveCarnival – BBQ Poolside Buffet. As far as Christmas and New Year buffets go, every year we’ll see tough competition amongst the F&B players and no doubt the thousand-and-one hotels in the Klang Valley.

Routinely, to set each other apart from the competition, the hotel would go to the extent of organizing a feast surrounding a particular theme. A gimmick or a timeless business strategy, it all depends on the execution of the tactics.

For this year, the management of Holiday Villa Subang has decided to embrace a carnival-like theme; and judging from the camaraderie of wacky costumed personnel, fancy decorations and the experience of eating beside their Olympic-sized swimming pool; caressed by the warm breeze of the night ….. Kick Start A Monday @ Strawberry Park Resort, Cameron Highlands

May 28, 2010 | 5,854 views

Bharat Tea Plantation

Cameron Valley Tea (Bharat Plantations) – A sight for sore eyes indeed … the endless fields of lush greenery greeting the weary soul from the lowlands.

Still remember how I jump-started my Monday two weeks ago, at Swiss Garden Resort @ Damai Laut? Ironically, exactly one week after, we were required to travel all the way up the highlands for another 3 days, 2 nights of work-related holiday.

Wait, I just coined that term. It could well be a holiday-related work for all I care !!! 🙂

Strawberry Park Resort

Wanna read more about Strawberry Park Resort; aptly named The Highest Resort in Cameron Highlands? Then you wouldn’t wanna miss my last year’s stories ….

Almost one year on, and we were back again in possibly the one resort in Cameron Highlands that correctly defines the alluring charm of neo-Tudor influences from the days of the British colonization on our lands.

Of course, some might argue that Strawberry Park Resort is way past its prime …. being a decade or two too late for familiarization amongst the younger generations. But wait, therein lies the charm … of a resort that has seen better days, complete with rickety (slightly exaggerated, no worries) polished wooden floors, a bath tub in the middle of the humongous bathroom, eerie closet with creaking sounds, yet bear such  pride; a testament to their rich legacy.   Read the rest of this entry »

Starting the Year Off with a Bang?! (Tenji Japanese Buffet @ Solaris Mont Kiara)

January 8, 2009 | 1,994 views
A break from the Melaka post, and rewind back to a week ago …. the dawn of a new bullish year. I said BULL-ISH, according to the lunar calendar. Not Bullsh*t. Though given the current economic downward spiral trend, the latter may suit our prospects for the coming 365 days more ….
So, how was YOUR new year celebration? Mine = Ruckus. Should’ve known better than to spend it around the Golden Triangle area in KL. The seas of revellers flooded the streets around the city(which fortunately, were closed for the celebration since evening. If not? Refer Xmas Gurney Drive pandemonium).

The fireworks display (a fix affair over at KLCC every year), and the aftermath of ‘WAR’ along Jln Sultan Ismail …. had us cowering in fear of sprayed with snow.
Since early evening, Astro started the ball rolling by staging a show outside of Sg Wang Plaza, with mostly local and some international Chinese artistes performing. Over at Pavilion, booming loud music was emanating from some boombox around the giant Xmas tree at the entrance. Xmas was … in fact, a week’s old story though.
But really, it was cool to see Malaysians from every race and background, as well as generation, celebrating amidst the turbulent times, for one night only ….. albeit the un-ruliness. But hey, all in the name of fun, no? 🙂
Tenji Japanese Buffet Restaurant @ Solaris Mont Kiara
On the 1st day of 2009, I was still reeling from the previous night’s experience, walked miles after miles of unnecessary pilgrimage with thousands of others, as I chose to take the train, seeing that most roads were closed off to traffic.
However, on the day after, things started to pick up, as influenced by the many rave reviews of Tenji’s buffet promotion, we crawled, traversed and scrambled our way to Mont Kiara. (Side note : Do ask or search for directions beforehand, if you’re not familiar with the way. Mont Kiara can be seen from the highway, but took us a few extra rounds to find our way there from town. It’s in fact, rather near to Hartamas).
