Kick Start A Monday @ Strawberry Park Resort, Cameron HighlandsMay 28, 2010 | 5,008 views
Cameron Valley Tea (Bharat Plantations) – A sight for sore eyes indeed … the endless fields of lush greenery greeting the weary soul from the lowlands.
Still remember how I jump-started my Monday two weeks ago, at Swiss Garden Resort @ Damai Laut? Ironically, exactly one week after, we were required to travel all the way up the highlands for another 3 days, 2 nights of work-related holiday.
Wait, I just coined that term. It could well be a holiday-related work for all I care !!! 🙂
Almost one year on, and we were back again in possibly the one resort in Cameron Highlands that correctly defines the alluring charm of neo-Tudor influences from the days of the British colonization on our lands.
Of course, some might argue that Strawberry Park Resort is way past its prime …. being a decade or two too late for familiarization amongst the younger generations. But wait, therein lies the charm … of a resort that has seen better days, complete with rickety (slightly exaggerated, no worries) polished wooden floors, a bath tub in the middle of the humongous bathroom, eerie closet with creaking sounds, yet bear such pride; a testament to their rich legacy.
Juicy, sweet and fresh tomatoes from the highlands … it felt like as though we were being served with vegetables straight from the farms !!!
Once again, our stay at Strawberry Park Resort did not disappoint. Attentive, warm (amidst the cool weather?) and accommodating was the service provided; from the reception to the kitchens, and everywhere in between. We felt a little … pampered at times, really.
The food served at Jim Thompson Terrace was nothing short of fabulous, rendering every single meal a pleasure to be feasted upon. Moreover, every meal was spoon-fed to our (motor)mouths provided for free (we were attending a conference of sorts, after all). So there was no reason for us to venture down the hills (the resort’s located on an isolated hill …. hence you can engage in some drifting if you desire so) in search of food. Burp. 😉
A lamb being roasted, and a duck on the side. Carved on the spot, you can request for multiple servings …. IF you can withstand the dagger stares from all angles!
Fresh vegetables for your DIY salad (complete with at least 6 different dressings!), combination of Eastern and Western flavours, and the delectably decadent desserts ……
I vowed to stay away from bingeing, to no avail … apparently. Oh well, I’ll just have to hold back on my ensuing meals once I’m back to the lowlands.
Wishful thinking ……. for at the time this post is being published, I am already up in the other highlands for a well-deserved rejuvenation respite ….. 😉
Tea of many flavours at Cameron Valley Tea Shop; a short distance away from Ringlet, en route to Tanah Rata. There are TWO such outlets at a distance of almost 200metres apart. Hence don’t worry if you can’t find a seat in any one of the tea shop.
If you’re feeling slightly dizzy already from the thought of transcending the hills, mountains and dangerous terrains towards Sungai Palas Boh Tea Plantations, no worries.
You can easily opt for the other alternatives, such as the Bharat Tea Plantations in between Tanah Rata and Ringlet, with not one, but TWO tea shops within spitting distance from each other. Not as breathtaking as the Tea Shop at Sungai Palas, but still provided a much comforting backdrop for a leisurely tete-a-tete catchup session between long lost friends ……
I tried the Cardamom tea there (RM5/USD1.60), served with or without milk. Heavily tinged with the aforementioned spice, the taste might be slightly too overwhelming for some. I was relieved for the sugar and milk provided along with the bitter, metallic (kelat?) tasting tea. Sorry, but I’ll stick to the not-so-fancy versions from now on …..
TA-DA !!!! And there you have it !!! The First Half of my 2010 Cameron Highlands getaway. It has been almost a customary annual exodus now …… hasn’t it? Second half to come soon enough, on a desserts cafe most people would be familiar with by now. But wait, do you know that THEY ARE EXPANDING TO IPOH ?!!!
Wait for my take on this, okay? …. But for now, wish me LUCK, for I’ll be betting my bottom dollar$$ up in you-know-where !!!! 🙂
