Profile

J2Kfm is a guy in his late 20′s – Born and raised in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. I have a strong penchant for good food, an even stronger desire to travel (which coincidentally, had become an integral part of my job), and naturally, rant and ramble incessantly on any topics under the sun. But mostly covering the (usually) delicious food that I devoured, 24/7/365.

Q : When was this blog started, and how? Another one of those “calling from the skies”?

A : This blog named Motormouth From Ipoh was started way back in 3rd of March, 2008. Although still in its infantile age, I’ve recently (Sept 2009) jumped the ship (from the Blogger platform) to my own domain here, at www.j2kfm.com. If you’re one who loves to dig up the older archives, scavenge those skeletons in the closet, appreciate your history, or simply adores paraphernalia of the most ancient and nostalgic nature, do drop by my previous blog at this address : http://j2kfm.blogspot.com. My interest started when I was reading food blogs on the Net back in 2008, and was pleasantly surprised at the immensely captivating contents in the other food blogs.

Q : Why J2Kfm, and why Motormouth? You’re a robot running on oil?

A : Ha-Ha-Ha. Nope, seriously, this blog was initially named Food Glorious Food. Yeah, many might not know about this, but I changed the name to Motormouth From Ipoh as I did not want the title to be cliched. Motormouth; because I eat like one heck of a bulldozer. And I speak my mind on most issues, sometimes getting myself in a knot for my rants. J2Kfm was a nick I have been using since the Millennium Bug fiasco.

Q : Since you have already eaten everything there is to be eaten in Ipoh, you’re just repeating yourself over and over again? Or are you creating make-believe eateries?!

A : Most people have the impression that I have eaten everything there is to be eaten in Ipoh, and then some. And maybe eating stuff that should NOT be eaten. (ahem ahem). Truth is : I HAVE NOT. There are simply too much good, interesting and lip-smacking food to be discovered at every nook and corner, rendering my search almost futile with no recommendations from other Ipohans. Or Ipohites, whichever suits your fancy. Or even from those outside of this lovely city, from other states in Malaysia, or even currently residing in other countries in the world, but with a knack for discovering sumptuous food no matter where (or how) they can be found.

Q : You write so often, you must be eating free food all the time and writing biased reviews ?!!

A : On the contrary, I usually do not accept invited reviews, paid reviews, or even compensation for the writeups. Really. I prefer to stay neutral, and remain inconspicuous when eating out. Unless approached by the proprietor(s) or staff, I don’t make it a point to tell them that I’ll be writing about the visit. But I did accept a few invitations, for I felt that these restaurants are worthy of exposure, but I still spoke my mind and stated the obvious (pros and cons alike) in my post.

Q : Why only Ipoh food? Why not write more about food in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, or the other states of Malaysia? Not everyone stays in a city so dead like Ipoh, okay?!

A : Yeah, as ‘dead’ as Ipoh may be, this is MY hometown. And Ipoh has arguably the BEST street foods/hawker foods that Malaysia has to offer, aside from Penang. Besides, I do write quite a number on food from Kuala Lumpur/Selangor, and food from Penang, aside from the constant travels around the towns of Perak (read Perak Food Hunt for more).

Q : Why you remain so anonymous? Cannot show your face or are you face-less?! Then how to contact you ah, weirdo?!!

A : Ahem, yeah I prefer to remain ‘face-less’ for the time being, for a variety of reasons. Close friends or colleagues would be able to relate to these odd rules. But of course, you can contact me through the following means :  My e-mail address at ipohmotormouth@gmail.com. Or you can click on my the blue birdie below to follow me on Twitter :

For a better understanding of who in the blue hell is J2Kfm, consider reading the posts below :

1) E-mail Interview with Feedmelah.com – Some toughie questions, but mostly a walk in the park. ;)

2) Motormouth’s 7 Deadly Sins – Seven things you probably do not know about J2Kfm.

3) My interview @ A Table For Two; A food blog by an Ipoh boy now residing in Australia.

And are you scratching your head wondering what’s up with the dominant Golden Retriever icons found in both my old and new blog? Read all about my lovely Lulu at the following link :

Lulu, my Golden Retriever

Psst !!! Wanna know what gear I have been using all this while to produce such magnificent photos? (Okay, that’s a little too nauseating for you to stomach, I know) Here goes :

Panasonic Lumix LX3

Panasonic Lumix LX3 has been my companion since February 2009. A reliable digital camera with a fast shutter, manual controls, and sturdy built, this is a good buy for those thinking of getting something a level above the usual point and shoot, but still contemplating on carrying a full-blown DSLR everywhere you go. But of course I am thinking of moving up the ladder and grab myself a DSLR one of these days, but for the time being, I’m contented with my LX3.

Nokia 5600

But wait … didn’t I mention something about this blog’s already 2 years old? Yes, you read that right. Since from the beginning, I did not have a camera to assist in snapping the food photos. I was using my camera phone, the Nokia 5610 Xpress Music with a 3.2 megapixel camera, to perform its magic. That explains why when you read all the older entries, you’ll be looking at grainy shots whereas from the Hanoi 2009 Saga onwards, the quality of the pictures improved dramatically. To the point of me finding myself licking the screen sometimes. ;)

FEATURED ARTICLES, WRITTEN BY YOURS TRULY …….

Aside from writing on my blog here, I also have written for several websites, magazines, and got published in the media a few times. Not that I am blowing my own trumpet (heck, I am musically-impaired, as far as I know) but the following link will take you to some of the articles you have NOT seen here before. So brace yourself for more of Motormouth’s madness !!!

Finally, you are willing to show us your face (half of it).
Actually, I prefer the previous version as searching was much easier compared this new domain.
This one looks a little too complicated… (my personal idea)

hi Ming Na. glad to see you coming here.
there’s a search option at the top right, next to the title of the blog.
just type in anything, and related posts would be listed.
for Ipoh food, just click on Ipoh food category,
while Perak food is mostly listed on the toolbar below the header, named Perak Food Hunt.

    hope this helps. :)

J2Kfm, it’s my first time dropping by this blog and it’s a shame I have not been here before.
Before you jump into conclusion, it’s only because I have not been blog hopping much or been searching for good stuff enough.
I’m a Perakian too and certainly will be using your posts to venture around for food!
    Keep it up too :)
