Perak Food Guide by J2Kfm
April 27, 2010 | 20,314 viewsIn case you haven’t noticed, or it’s your first time here, Motormouth From Ipoh is NOT only about Ipoh Food. Over the years, I have travelled quite a distance, eaten a little more than mere mouthfuls, and written a surprising amount of posts about the food from the smaller and lesser-known towns in the state of Perak in Malaysia.
So what better way to put them all together in one post, than another one of those Ultimate Food List, albeit this one’s named Perak Food Guide by J2Kfm, so I can update this list as I go along with my food-hunting activities. And I really hope this makes it all easier for everyone to seek for food highlights from certain towns, eg. Tanjung Tualang’s prawns, Kampar’s glutinous rice for breakfast, Gerik’s wild boar curry, Sitiawan cendol, and so forth.

To my knowledge, until now, NO. Sad to say.
I love Hainan style of chicken chops, and I vaguely remember that FMS previously had them on their menu. But I could be wrong, of course, for it’s been almost 3 years since they’ve closed for renovation.

I will add this link in my blog. Very good work.

Hi there ck. Yes, I added MAPS to the respective posts whenever possible, but be aware that in some smaller towns, even in Seri Manjung and Sitiawan, the roads have yet to be mapped out in Google Maps.
Hence I could only write the directions as accurate as possible.
Of course, feel free to drop me a mail anytime, and I’ll be glad to assist.

Everytime when I dropped by Lumut/Sitiawan or Pantai Remis, I always visit Capri for a few beer and food. They are not that bad from a Chef point of view, maybe its depand on your personal taste bud. You could see a lot of expatriates having dinner there though not as many as Jook Joint Bistro at the other end. The lady boss from Penang entertains the customer. Pricey? Cost of transportation to Lumut via Penang.

Hi G-Man. I have been continuously critiqued, and blasted for writing such a poor review of Capri, since before I moved to my own domain here.
Personal tastebud maybe, but the pizza, pasta and tiramisu that afternoon were sure not as impressive as some claim them to be. Not from my personal observation, but the three of us.
But of course, this happened 2 yrs ago, and maybe, just maybe, since then they have improved leaps n bounds?
I will be sure to revisit whenever possible for an updated review.

i also can’t really find the one i like in Ipoh but i found one in Penang. i don’t know how to direct you. i just know it’s a open space eating place next to Chowrasta Market. you can see CCF, jawa noodle, hokkien noodle and kueh teow soup. the wanton noodle stall is at the back. the drink seller told us about the wanton stall. if not i don’t think those not familiar will know. the wanton noodle is very springy, curly and a little transparent type. like those handmade, not the normal smooth strand. i don’t know how to describe. it’s so nice. i love it so much. normally i am very picky on wanton noodle. the eating area is open on morning only.

Okay, so it’s near to Chowrasta market. Will ask my Penang food kakis to find out about this.

ya near Chowrasta. it’s open space with those umbrellas. not inside coffee shops. i know there are a lot of coffee shops around that area.
Well done and keep it up with the compilation. I am sure it is going to be a great piece at the end.

I would like to talk a bit about Kum Loong Dim Sum.
On my way back from KL to Sungai Petani in March 2010, I reached Taiping at about 530am and decided to get into Taiping for breakfast.
Kum Loong Dim Sum was already opened then. My wife, my 3 kids and me went in to have dim sum at this restaurant. The restaurant was filled with senior citizens who were already out for morning walk.
The dim sum was good, the morning air was fresh and the town was so quite and peaceful.
