Psst … Have You Heard of Gossip Jazz @ Greentown, Ipoh?

Sang Har Meen - Freshwater Prawns Noodles

Gossip Jazz’s “The Best Sang Har Mein” (RM25/USD8) (no, it’s really named as such) comprises of deep fried wantan noodles (egg noodles) and two large freshwater prawns.

Have you heard of this new place named Gossip Jazz in Greentown? A wine bar coming to life with live jazz performances every Thursday to Saturday night, and relaxing jazz and blues music playing over the background at other times.

Psst. Let me drop you another hint; they don’t joke when they claim that their Sang Har Mein (Freshwater Prawn Noodles) is the best in town.

Chef Fandee's Mee Goreng

Tell me your story about a favourite spot for breakfast in KL. Do you prefer time-honoured kopitiams or do you like modern cafes?

Is your heart moved by the sight of two runny half-boiled eggs on buttered toast; paired with an aromatic brew of coffee? Or have you an aversion to a breakfast of champions; the BIG Western platter with every possible artery-clogging materials known to men?

Come what may; thunderstorms & an everlasting congestion this monstrosity of a Monday; let me share with you this quaint spot ambitiously named Wondermama in Bangsar.

Kedai Kopi Shin Lok @ Jeram

Steaming hot pau’s, freshly-baked egg tarts, crispy yam puffs and thick coffee brewed at Kedai Kopi Shin Lok, Jeram, Kuala Selangor

Short of generalizing Kuala Selangor as a town famous only for the seafood, we stumbled upon Shin Lok Coffee Shop tucked hidden (or maybe not so) in the town of Jeram; about 20km away from the main town of Kuala Selangor.

Their specialties? Freshly steamed, fluffy buns (also known as “pau”) filled with a variety of ingredients and the crispy yam puffs (known as “woo kok”).

Tuck Kee – The “Wat Tan Hor” Champion of Ipoh?

Tuck Kee Wat Tan Hor

“Wat Tan Hor” – Fried flat rice noodles served in a pool of creamy/savoury gravy laden with the goodness of eggs, sweetness from the ‘sawi’ (mustard greens) & sinfulness from the lard fritters.

It took me years; almost half a decade to write about Tuck Kee Restaurant. If the name sounds familiar and you go … “Oh, the one famous for smoked duck, roasted pork and curry stingray ma …. you slowpoke!!!”

Then please. Hold your ammunition, my darlings.

That Tuck Kee is a household name when it comes to Chinese diners in Ipoh; in particular around the Pasir Pinji-Pasir Puteh area. But that’s not the Tuck Kee I am talking about here.

If it’s fried noodles that you crave for, and you were severely let down by the revamped Buntong 45-minutes Wat Tan Hor, then have I got good news for you.

Memories @ Pasir Pinji – A Pot of Rice, A Bowl of “Tau Fu Fah” & A Piece of Apom

Three Decades

Let’s not disregard the fact that this old chap with a perpetual frown etched on his face, has been laboriously cooking up pots after pots of claypot chicken rice for more than 30 years now. And still goes on and on; driven by passion.

I remember someone left a heartfelt plea in a recent post;

“Motormouth, I hope you follow your grassroots. Do what you do best.”

Okay. Wish granted. Still struck by the rainy spell this chilly Tuesday evening, in the midst of the Nine Emperor Gods’ Festival (Kau Ong Yeh), let’s turn back the clock and reminisce on a few forgotten gems in Pasir Pinji; overshadowed by swanky cafes, posh diners and erm, possibly hampered by lack of coverage.

Redemption : A Silent Tale of One Delicious Jaunt @ Genting Highlands

October 15, 2012 | 13,135 views

I have been reprimanded time and again for the ultra-lengthy posts, mindless/endless ramblings (nonsense, if you will) and senseless rants on this blog.

For more than 4 years now, Motormouth From Ipoh has charted several milestones; from appearing on TV for the first (and possibly the last, since rumor has it that thousands, if not millions actually suffered from nightmares from watching this ogre on telly thereafter!) to running its first ever contest online (congrats to the 10 lucky winners!)

But that recent contest really opened up my eyes to an element that although I half-expected (but constantly in denial mode) but have never thought that it would be so central to the enjoyment of my posts … the length of my writings.

Mushroom Farm, Genting Highlands

Barely an attraction nowadays; the Mushroom Farm (Taman Cendawan) in Genting Highlands houses more than just a farm. There are two restaurants within, and a retail store selling local produce.

Remember this post, two years ago? Whereby I was quick to reiterate that the best place to eat in Genting Highlands would be a distance away at Gohtong Jaya.

Until this short excursion up the highlands changed my mind slightly.

For today, let’s enjoy the travel photos taken during the 2D/1N stay in Genting Highlands two weeks ago.
