Mindless Indulgences @ Milkshake Factory, Jalan P.Ramlee, Kuala Lumpur
May 9, 2011 | 5,798 viewsFirst milkshake bar in Malaysia? To imagine more than 50 types of milkshakes; from fruity flavoured smoothies to specialty shakes, and biscuit/cereal shakes to their (in)famously sinful and guilt-ridden chocolate bar shakes.
And while everyone’s nodding their heads to The Lazy Song over the weekend, putting their feet up and sipping on a cool pint or cuppa while reading a good book by the fireplace (highly doubtful since the skin was scorched from just stepping out of the house!), I spent all 3 days (Friday included, naturally) of my weekend cooped up in Shangri-La Hotel deep in the heart of KL city.
In case you’re going … WHAT is there to lament about, you worthless spoiled prick brat?
Think again. If it’s a holiday, then by all means, I should be grateful. I can imagine the partying all night bonanza, the hangover on the very next day, and then the cycle repeats itself.
But wishful thinking. It was WORK. And the hours of continuous standing and talking took its toll on this poor, aging bones. By the end of the day, I was craving for nothing but a good back massage, acupuncture, or heck … gimme an OSIM treatment for all I cared.
However, at dire times like this …. it pays to seek for the silver lining no matter how grey your sky may be. And for me, a cup of milkshake turned my day around ….
Go crazy and pick your wildest fantasy, blended in the creamiest vanilla ice-cream (or was it full cream milk?) and fine ice, and sip your blues away …..
It was once again … that evil Jason who brought this up. A few hours before we were tasked with the unenviable arduous responsibility (10 hours of work until wee hours of the morning was no laughing matter, especially when my day usually starts before sunrise).
I should be thankful though. For laborious work calls for a little indulgence. Mindless/senseless/futile as that might be.
Beware the bane of the ultra swanky high stools … took me considerable effort to park this XL-sized derriere comfortably.
And we even skipped dinner (for what it’s worth, but we did end up at Elegant Inn @ Menara Hap Seng a few hours after …. that’s almost supper though) for this.
A MILKSHAKE bar in the middle of the city? And Jalan P. Ramlee, of all places?!
(FYI, Jalan P.Ramlee is renowned for the stretch of clubs, bars and discos more than the F&B establishments, hence one does not expect to find good food in the broad daylight)
An extended corner of Coffee Bean at the end of Jalan P. Ramlee, near to Beach Club and junction of Jalan P.Ramlee – Jalan Sultan Ismail. About 5 minutes of walk from Shangri-La Hotel.
But when he told me about Kinder Bueno milkshakes, I was momentarily stunned. My mind drifted to a whole other level, of almost orgasmic proportion. This created a whole new dimension to the mundane old boring vanilla-chocolate-strawberry ‘geriatric‘ flavours.
I have always loved milkshakes, since my earlier days (a century or two ago). McDonald’s used to make really good ones back then, though I am not sure of the quality now. Thus, sipping on creamy milkshakes always brought back fond memories of childhood, when Happy Meal came in a colourful cardboard box with Ronald, Grimace, Hamburglar and Tweety (?), and a toy of utmost prominence.
Fabulously addictive. The Maltesers version of the milkshake was good. (RM11.50 for a small cup, RM12.50 for a large one)
You tend to get dizzy from all the selections. From Cadbury and Ferrero Rocher to Toblerone, Kit Kat to Maltesers, and Kinder Bueno to Snickers. Not to mention Oreo, Famous Amos, Kellogg’s and even McVite’s Digestives!!!!
I vaguely remember they allow a combination of flavours, at an extra cost. But we ended up with safe choices (in this context), and went for the ones listed under Chocolate Bar Shakes.
Verdict? Just when you think milkshakes can’t get any more creative, Milkshake Factory shakes things up in a most wicked fashion. Will I come again? MOST definitely. If only they open in shopping malls instead of having to brace the horrendous traffic to KL city ……
By the way, they serve lunch sets on weekdays; a sandwich of your choice, and a LARGE smoothie for only RM15.90. A damn attractive deal, if you ask me.

That would be great news for all … in the northern region I suppose. Too bad none in Ipoh yet. Or if ever?
I do wish they would open more in malls and in PJ though. More accessible area than Jln P Ramlee.
