Michelangelo’s Pizzeria @ Ipoh – Celebrations

NEW!! (January 2011) – Giant Cinnamon Rolls, Tuna Spaghetti & Jalapeno Mac & Cheese
Baby Back Ribs Pizza Promotion (ended in Oct 2010) – http://www.j2kfm.com/baby-back-ribs-pizza-michelangelos-pizzeria-ipoh-promotion/
Since Michelangelo’s Pizzeria (www) changes their menu and specials of the week/month from time to time, this post will be constantly being updated with the latest promotions from Ipoh’s most beloved pizzeria, specials of the week (they change at blistering speed, so you’d better check the latest updates on this page) and maybe a contest or two in the future.
Elevated on those huge but hollowed Heinz tomato paste cans, the pizzas at Michelangelo’s Pizzeria are never short of fresh, quality ingredients.
Currently, Michelangelo’s Pizzeria is offering a special MEATBALL Pizza (scroll down for a better look), with Italian style of chunky and dense balls of pork laced with herbs and spices, generously thrown on the dough with melted mozzarella and fresh tomato paste. If you’re a meatball lover, you CAN’T give this a miss !!! For limited time only!
Meatball Pizza & Chicken of the Sea (Tuna, Onions, Pineapples)
Good thing about dining at Michelangelo’s Pizzeria is that you can mix and match your pizzas, and the ingredients that go onto the base. Select up to two choices for each pizza (don’t worry, you won’t be paying an arm and a leg … unless you decide to order 4 varieties in ONE pizza, then Michael might come at you with a cleaver!) so you can taste different varieties without having to order excessively.
The Hog (Italian Pork Sausages, Smoked Streaky Bacon, Virginia Ham) and Bacon & Eggs
The “Chicken of the Sea” or tuna, onions and pineapple pizza is also a special item NOT featured permanently in the menu. Though with much persuasion (possibly a wink or two), you can try to coerce them into inserting the combination into the permanent menu.
And you really should, for the chunks of briny tuna with loads of chopped onions and cubed pineapples made a beautiful coalition; enough to send one into a seafood frenzy.
My personal favourite pizza from the list? The HOG of course. With an overload of PORKY goodness; bacons, sausages and hams, how can one resist this barbaric/carnivorous creation?!! Pray they do not take this out from the menu, for if you’re in dire need for protein, THIS IS IT. The Bacon And Eggs pizza is also a terrific combination, with overeasy eggs cracked on top of the layers of cheese, then topped with smokey streaked bacons.
Spicy Creamy Chicken Stroganoff – A fiery twist to the classic
Bacon-wrapped Jalapeno Pepper stuffed with Cheese – Be prepared to breathe fire ……
Other specials currently on the menu include the spaghetti topped with creamy Chicken Stroganoff, but this one has a fiery kick to it. If you’re good with spicy food, then give their Grilled Bacon-wrapped Jalapeno Pepper with Cheese a try. Want even more kick? Try the peppers WITH the seeds intact!!!! (Ask for Meg to please your sadistic palate)

Michelangelo’s Pizzeria was the place me and my friends’ end the year 2009 celebrating our birthday together.
All the ingredients were so fresh(I missed their bacon), really can’t wait to bring more frens to try again.
And not forgot to mention their cheese cake, a MUST try, the cheezy flavor spread to every corner inside my mouth in every bite.
I’m really glad we have such a great pizza place (beside shakey’s and …..da pizza hut) in Ipoh serving real thin pizzas with fresh ingredients.
*I suggest to those who planned to go to Michelangelo’s Pizzeria, plz bring your frens along so that you all can taste more different pizza (including customized toppings).

Yeah, bring more friends, for the pizza is served in a standard portion, and rather large at that.
I started my year with Michelangelo’s instead.

Seems like they will be adding cupcakes into their repertoire. Though don’t expect the usual sweet varieties.

Do they do take-aways already like the usual American Pizzerias or it’s in the plans for the future? If they do take-aways, it’ll be pretty cool (great for house parties/dinners) tho may not be as good as eating it there…

Yes we do take away’s every night, in fact we encourage it all the time.

Went to Michelangelo’s Pizzeria just because of your fantastic post! Well, I was in for a shock of my life when the lady boss was so rude & kicked me out by saying repeatedly, ‘THIS IS MY RESTAURANT & I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT, SO GET UP!!’ when I sat at a table that I’ve waited for 15mins ala ‘Foh San Tim Sum Restaurant’ style! No need to be so arrogant & chase your customers away when your business is good Mrs Michelangelo!

Wait, this is serious. The lady boss herself? You mean SL? That can’t be true, she’s a very nice lady.
You mind to explain in details, so the management themselves can answer this accusation?
[Reply]
What happened was this and there are several other customers who will attest to this. We had a full house and no seats at all., there were four parties waiting patiently outside. This lady walked past them all and sat down the minute a table opened up. SL went up to her very politely and asked her if she would mind sitting at the counter becuae this table was meant for one of the parties who had been waiting for more then several minutes, the lady’s exact words were and I quote: “yes I do mind, you have no wait to be seated sign outside. SL then politely said to her, yes we know that, it is on a first come first sit basis, however because we are completely full and there are already people waiting we are trying to help them out, if you could move to the counter we will find you a table as soon as one turns up. The lady still refused to move and also said again that there is no wait to be seated sign and that she can sit there. SL for a third time very nicely tried to accommodate her by saying she would find her and her friend another table if she would mind moving to the counter first, but the lady still refused and said she was waiting for a friend, this table was meant for a party of 4. This was also during our busiest time on Sunday night. When the lady became rude to SL and said she will not move and she does not care, SL then said this is my restaurant and we have to consider all our customers concerns. The lady became more aggressive so SL said if she did not like moving to the counter she could leave. It was very unfortunate and the customers there felt uncomfortable about what had happened. However we do have to take the concerns of all our customers to heart and this lady was the type that would walk past you waiting in line at the bank or cut in front of you in a car when you were waiting for a turn, that is how she appeared. Funny though because we thought she was a repeat customer, maybe this was her first time there. Those who have been to our place know that we try very hard to give them the best experience that we can give, we also usually give free coffees, cheesecakes, or meals on the house if there are any delays. We have a very limited number of tables around 9 to 10 and can only sit around 40-50 people at a time and we try to make certain everyone gets in and gets their turn. But there are unfortunate times where the customers “are not” always correct. We have severed around 1000 plus people since we opened on the 24th and this is the very first time we had an ugly incident. Those who have been there or know us know that in no way are we like the above description. This really was a case were the customer was abusive, and rude to us first and would not understand that there were people there waiting before her even though we do not have a please wait to be seated sign. It should have been obvious to her that even though we do not have such a sign that there were people there before her waiting for a table.
We do have the right to help our customers out. And I am very sorry to say this as we do not wish to loose any customers at all, but if this is the type of customer that is wanting to come to our place we can do without this person and their attitude. While we would welcome her back at any time and give her the best in service we could, it was her attitude that brought on the small outrage that occurred on both sides. We will let the customers be the judge of it. But funny how she left out the parts above in her comments about her insisting that there is no wait to be seated sign, that SL did in fact asked her politely if she would mind waiting at the counter 1-3 times before becoming more direct towards her and that she refused to leave and knew there were others there before her waiting for a table. Again do remember we do have other customers that were there this night that did in fact hear what was said and how it went down. We do thank them for their support as well.
[Reply]
Great response to the above post Micheal!
I am one of the very happy customers who saw how Michael and SL treated all customers regardless how packed and impatient the customers got, while handling the orders promptly and still put on a smiling face to each request and order.
It gives me great pleasure to patronize your shop and taste the wonderful pzza you’ve made, while educating me on the different styles of pizza from new york, chicago and even Italy. Going out of the way and keeping your customers well educated while tossing dough is certainly no easy feat, and I definitely will be back again for more. =)
Sorry motormouth for turning your blog post into a testimony page! ^^

Went for the third time within 3 weeks time … my pizza was burned out and I was witnessing it! I should have shouted michael, watch out my pizza! Too bad I only knew it was mine till the staff told me … LOL
[Reply]
Yeah I recall that too, If I remember correctly I asked my staff to inform him that his pizza was way charred out and we made him a new one right away. Things like this do happen sometimes when you work with a wood fire oven at 750 to 800 degrees and if we ever black one out too much on the bottom we of course admit it, give them a new one and use the old one for a hockey puck or a table leg stabilizer LOL. Steve so sorry for any wait period you had to go through and if any of our other guests ever encounter the above, please do let us know we will take care of it right on the spot.

We have some new pizzas, the best being The Hog: Virginia ham, smokey bacon and Italian Sausage and it is great, my wife thought of it and it went like crazy today. Going to have a few other hot things coming over the next week or so also. Oh yeah, we have this terrific new pasta with red sauce, sure you will like it very much.

I finally went there last night!!! we were on the way back to KL from pantai remis.
The pizza was great, we have vegetarian pizza and miki miki~~ yummy!! Both the bread sticks the knots were sp cheesy, oh, and I like the best -Spagetti Carbonara! 6 of us shared one plate, but I believe that I can finish up one plate by myself LOL! My brother love the cheese cake, althou we were really full, but we still able to wallop the cheese cake ^^
Em… only one small drawback that bothers me, the music was so loud. Other than this, everything was great. It is a great place serving great food! I’ll definitely go there again once i got chance.
Wish that their business is getting better, so much better, that they will plan to open a branch at puchong. LOL!

Tasted The Hog too, great for carnivore like me! Anyway, my friend does mentioned to me that if there are more variety of vegetables on those meat dominating pizza, that would be great and the frequent appeared tomato paste on most pizza does makes them quite identical to each other
[Reply]
Hey Steve my friend, you do know you can always pick and choose your own toppings on our pizzas or even B.Y.O. (build your own.) My friends, it is not simply tomato paste hehe, it is our very own mixture of seasonings and herbs that give it its’ very own unique taste.
Steve, be sure to come up to me at the counter and yell hello so I know you are there. Next week we are having Fresco Pizza, no sauce, no cheese, just the base coated in olive oil and fresh minced garlic then cooked in our wood fire oven. After we cooked the base we then will top it with rocket (arugula), fresh cut tomatoes, feta cheese, black olives and a drizzle of olive oil. Very light, frequent and very organic. I’m sure you will like it very much, my wife discovered this little treasure and those we have tested it on loved it very much.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

We went there a few days ago and my entire family was impressed by the quality of the food. We ordered two pizzas both half and half as there are so many choices to pick from. I think this place will go a long way in offering top food for Ipoh, pizza hut cannot do what these guys do. The pizzas are very good and of a good size, however the place is small and tightly packed without a lot of room to move. It was a little warm in there also, but they were fixing the ac when we were there. I have not seen any other place like this in Ipoh or KL before, so this is what “real” pizza or real American pizza is suppose to be like, we loved it and will be back for much more.
[Reply]
I agree with Steve (January 17 post).
I m doubtful. I went there on Feb15, 2010, 2nd day of chinese new year on 7pm something like that, total 6 of us.
The foods and drinks over there are far from my expectation.
I ask them whether any side-dishes such as chicken wings, etc. The waitress say – ‘We are not pizza hut’. I m curious, why they compare themselves with pizza-hut ? Ok no problem at all, I ask her to suggest us what they served the best.
We order 2 pizzas (half bluecheese half chesses topping + ham topping), 1 Spaghetti, 1 tuna salad, 4 cappuccino, 1 espresso, 1 100 plus.
1st serve – Tuna salad, normal.
2nd – 4 Cappuccino(s) served, 3 in 1 coffee mixer are much better than them.
3rd – Spaghetti, tasteless.
4th – espresso, tasteless, i can’t think that i m drinking espresso – very light favor.
5th – pizza served, pizzas are over-cooked and bottom layer are seriously burned. Taste are bitter.
I ask the waitress n she say is like that, and i ask her to try herself, she refuse to do that. Honestly, i’m not enjoying myself over there.
[Reply]
Dear Eric, I do apologize you had a bad experience there in our place and hope you will allow us to try to make it up to you one day, however I would also like to address a few of the points you raised.
1st We never had tuna salad at any time in our place, we did have a tuna pizza and a tuna pasta, which became one of our most requested pasta from returning customers who had ordered it in the past, we ran this special for 2 and ½ weeks.
2-4 we offer Lavazza Coffee, which is Italy’s number one espresso and coffee while Illy is the number one outside of Italy. Everyone has their own opinion on coffees and we do receive a lot of compliments on our coffee. While we are not a coffee house we do try to offer a decent cup at a very affordable price, I do apologize we were not able to make it to your expectations.
5 Pizzas, If you did have a seriously burned pizza (and we have stated in the past this can happen at times) you could have at anytime contacted us and we would have replaced it. All of our employees are taught what constitutes a “burned” pizza and what is a Charred pizza. All wood fire pizzas should have black and slight bitter marks on the bottom, as long as less than 20% of the bottom is black it is considered a perfect wood fire pizza, anything more than that is considered burned. While I do appreciate the customers view, w2e have had several customers who had never had wood fire pizza before and had only Pizza Hut. To them they thought their pizzas were burned and bitter when in fact it was a perfectly cooked pizza with a little charring on the bottom and some blackening on the top. Then again, we have had pizzas go out that were over cooked and we try to fix every customer that we can.
Lastly, the reason for comparing us to Pizza Hut was probably because we are the only two companies in Ipoh that cater to pizzas and that a lot of our costumers compare us to Pizza Hut. However, we do not really compare ourselves to them, pizza hut is a full service restaurant we are not, we are a pizzeria and we are non-halal.

My 1st visit was on the 8/3/10 after receiving good comments from my friends. I ordered The Hog and Garlic Parmesan Knots to share with my wife. The pizza was good while the Garlic Parmesan Knots was not bad. The downfall was the Americano I ordered which was very normal similiar to our Msia Kopi-O. Very lack of beverage like fruit juice.Need more improvement.

Dear KF,
Thank you for your comments, first let me address the lack of beverage, please remember we are not a Malaysian restaurant, in fact we are not a restaurant per se’ we are a true American Pizzeria and because of that we offer actually more than most pizzeria’s in America offer for drinks which is just soft drinks. This is a fast food establishment not too unlike McDonald’s or KFC except we make everything fresh. We try to keep costs down as well as time in preparing items.
As for the coffee, again let me apologize to people about this, we offer Lavazza Coffee and we have the machine set to the recommended amount, while we do our very best to please everyone, we obviously are not able to do that as each person has their own ideas on how they want their coffees to be, some want very strong while others want very weak. We try to set aroma and strength to the recommended amount of that in Italy.
Again please remember we are not a restaurant like Pizza Hut, etc, but a limited fast food place that actually specializes mainly in pizzas, while offering a few other items. For a pizzeria,, our menu is actually quite extensive as it is, we do hope in time as more and more people in Ipoh become familiar with the idea of a pizzeria they will also begin to appreciate our menu. Lastly, we do offer weekly specials that change every week and this in itself allows us to offer more than most other places as well.
We thank everyone for their comments and suggestions and will continue to try our very best to meet everyone’s expectations.

The nutrition level of organic foods is much higher than the ordinary, chemical added plantation foods, the main thing is the not organic plantation they strike for faster grow rate of the plantations, hence it shorten the time needed for the plantation to accumulate enough nutrition and vitamin in it, instead pumping more chemical stuff for it to grow faster and bigger but not much good ingredients.

My god-daughter wanted to eat pizza at Pizza Hut. I said why not we try something different and special like in Michelangelo Pizzaria. (Heard about this place from a friend). So we went there at 7.30 pm on Monday, 14-6-10. As the place is new to us, we tried to look out for the bright & white signboard in the area as informed. After searching for almost 40 minutes, going around the area a few times, we finally found it – closed ! In fact,, we have passed by the pizzaria a few times but missed it because the signboard light was not on that day, i.e Monday ! We didn’t know about that. Just as we stopped in front, another car came in and was also searching for the pizzaria !
Now that I know where is it, no problem going there on this Wednesday ! Hope the pizzas and services are as good as what have been mentioned here earlier so as to compensate our lost hours searching for this famous pizzaria.

Hi James, thanks for your reply.
Well, we arrived at the pizzeria just after 8 pm tonight. It was almost full house except left two tables. Surprisingly such a good turnout on a Wednesday whereby other eateries are at the quiet end ! We occupied the table for four near the entrance on the right side.
We were promptly greeted by the ever smiling waitress and provided with the menu. We ordered the Breadsticks, Garlic Knots, The Hog and Blue Cheese . Anything more ? Yes, not forgetting tonight’s special menu that was something like green capsicum stuff with cheese, meat paste with a long slice of bacon rolled over it. (I have forgotten the title of this food !).
In less than 10 minutes, food was speedily served to us. Hey, it’s faster than Pizza Hut ! Unbelievable !
We all love the stuff capsicum as well as The Hog, breadsticks and the knots especially dipped with the melted garlic butter sauce. Yummy ! My mum somehow can’t stand the little bit sourly Blue Cheese so I have to take over her whole piece.
The environment was a bit noisy, partly due to the full crowd and also the loud music. This, I totally agreed with Ms SinYee (posted on Feb 16, 2010) as we have to shout louder to each other to be heard.
Overall, we were satisfied with the food, the efficient and friendly service and the billings, of course! We graded this pizzeria 7 out of 10 points and will return to try the rest of the pizzas in the menu in due course.
Lastly, I totally disagreed with what Already Gone (posted on 10-1-2010) said about the lady boss’s attitude towards her customer after observing Mrs Michael and her staff’s manners and services during my meal there. I think she had made the right decision at that time.
James, hope to see you there one fine day.

Thank you for the above comments, however that was not my wife there on Wednesday, that was in fact our other friend and partner Ms. Lee, my wife and I were on the way back from KLIA that night. The special dish you are talking about is not capsicum but instead jalapeno peppers, stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon and then fire grilled in our wood burning oven. We are very glad you liked the place and the environment.
We would like to note once again to all of our customers, our place is not a restaurant but instead a Rock N Roll American Pizzeria, meant to be fast served food in an extremely casual atmosphere with loud music just like at Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywood. We do try very hard to be truly unique and as American as we possibly can be. All of our staff are told to have a wonderful time, joke with the customers, even dance in the room if they feel like it and just be friendly and treat everyone good and have fun.
We do hope you will come by again sometime soon and if you happen to see a Gweilo walking around, throwing a pizza in the air or chasing one of the staff with a towel in hand smacking them on the bum, just yell out hi as it will probably be me. As for having to almost yell in order to talk, well just so you do know, by all means go ahead and yell, we do…

Haha, I am sure Michael will be glad to reintroduce the cake into his menu. Or maybe they’re thinking of doing something else. A tiramisu? A panna cotta? Gelato ice cream?
Oh by the way, they have a Lemon Curd in their menu now; a creamy custard with a tangy hint.
[Reply]
Actually James we do have a Tiramisu offered Michelangelo’s Pizzeria and have had it for several months now, even has a little M on the top of it. We will introduce more and new desserts over the next coming months. We just want to make certain anything we offer meets our standards and that of our guests. The Lemon Custard is very close to our cheese cake we used to have, the tastes are exactly the same minus the crust. We will be reintroducing our cheese cake once again one of these months. It does take a lot of time in preparing and to bake, that is one of the reasons we switched to the lemon custard instead.
Soon we will be offering a few new pasta specials over the next coming weeks and we will be bringing back our BBQ Baby Back Ribs as a special again sometime in the next few months, we’ll keep you informed on our Facebook page.
Thank you all for your support we do appreciate it very much and will continue to try to bring you the very best in your neighborhood pizzeria.

I like your place as we went there last Thursday 21st July about 8.20pm with my family and a French friend. Ordered 3 pizzas – 2 Bacon and eggs and blue cheese. The bacon and eggs reminds me of my north of French experience last year. Quite tasty and not too charred.
However for blue cheese, the amount of blue cheese served was kinda “short” (due to the cost) – this is the comment from my French friend, Mr. Benoit Pluchon.
We also ordered the Baby Back Ribs but will not order this next time as we found it to be quite plain (sorry to say).
The decorations are beautiful and nicely arranged and after our meal, we smoked outside whereas my kids were thrilled to find a reading corner which is rather interesting.
Another comments from my friend, Mr. Pluchon is that the waitresses who served us were only friendly when we entered and leave (welcome and good-bye). Whenever, we are being served, the waitresses wasn’t smiling even when my friend, Mr. Pluchon tried to smile to them. I have worked as a waiter back in the 90s and no matter how tired or busy we are, we will always smile to our customers because they will be appreciated our hospitality and return one day to support us. After all this is a hospitality industries.
Overall, this is a good restaurant to go to compared to Pizza Hut and hopefully will be able to branch out throughout Perak and Malaysia…May your business prosper and give Pizza Hut a run for their money….Cheers

Thank you for your comments we do appreciate them very much. I also appreciate your friend’s view regarding the blue cheese pizza. Yes I would agree that in France there would be more blue cheese on the pie, however in America, people are a tab bit more shy when it comes to blue cheese therefore we do use a little less as all of our pizzas are made to be just like you would find back in the US.
As for the waitress, I will look into this, it could have been several reasons: a new one training, an old one getting ready to leave, etc. No excuses though for not smiling, I agree with you completely and thank you for your comment.
I do apologize about the baby back ribs, we do try to please most people, but like all foods, we are not always able to strike it gold on all food with everyone, People do have their own tastes. Our ribs are made the way my wife and I like them back in the states around the Chicago area therefore we make them the same way here. However our current rib nights (every Wednesday and Thursday) is now changed to the first weekend of every month. There is a lot of work that goes into making the ribs and therefore we found ourselves a little over stretched and it was sneaking into our time for our weekly specials.
As for branching out, if we ever did do such a thing it would only be limited to Ipoh and only Ipoh. While we appreciate people wanting us to expand to other areas, we want to stay true to the town that has been good to us for so many years and keep it as its own little special pizzeria but thank you very much for your kind words.

I can see I’m not the first person to complain about the loud noise. But judging by the feedback from the owner, it won’t get any softer.
I read plenty of compliments about the food. But no one is writing about how much they enjoy the loud music. So please interpret it constructively instead of justifying the extremely loud music as part of the theme. Lower the volume, make the dining experience more pleasant.
My friend warned me about bringing my earplugs along. Turns out, she ain’t kidding.

One more thing, before we left I told the waiter that I’ll be leaving as I could not possibly sit in a table which was meant for one anyway and he nodded. I replied to your post here and below down below. By the way the table you are talking about is actually meant for two people and we usually sit around 5-6 groups of two every night at that table and have been doing so for more than a year now. I believe the table you are referring to is the one against the wall next to the wall drawing and near the wood fire pit. I explained below the reasons for why we sit people the way we do. I do hope that will explain in more detail and answer your concerns.
If you would like, you may contact me directly at any time by calling the store and requesting to speak to me or asking James, the owner of this blog for my email and I would be very willing to discuss this further with you and answer any concerns you may still have.

I went there at 8.45pm on 8th Sept and was dissapointed at one of the Indian waiter’s manners. There were 2 four seater tables and 1 for a 2 seater available. The 2 seater table was push right to the wall and patrons were seated so close that its not possible for me to squeeze in my legs and the other empty table with the corners touching this table which I am supposed to be seated. I asked this Indian waiter if we may be seated in this other table instead but was told that was meant for 4 people and I ask him how can I sit in that teeny weeny space. He then sarcastically replied and pointed to me ONE sit here and ONE sit there. We then left feeling dissapointed and angry. One more thing, before we left I told the waiter that I’ll be leaving as I could not possibly sit in a table which was meant for one anyway and he nodded. Another group of people were seen leaving meaning there were 3 unoccupied bigger tables. I won’t mind if I’m asked to share my table if the place is full.

We do apologize for your inconvenience, he should not have been sarcastic. However, as you yourself noted there were only two four seater tables left and the one for two people. We do have to sit accordingly unfortunately. If we sit two people at a four person table then we will have four people perhaps waiting around outside for a table while there was an open table already there for two people. In other words, when we are busy and there are just a few tables we do sit according to table size, seating the maximum amount of people to a table in order to ensure smooth movement. We only have 15 tables of various sizes, before we had the two and three seater tables we had only 11 tables and we had a lot of customers that would complained about the waiting time and would walk away before ever making it inside because they would end up waiting around 40 minutes for a table.
Again we do apologize for the seating arrangements, but we do try to do the very best with the very limited space we have. Therefor if we are busy we will seat either one or two people at a two seater table and three to four people at a four seater table and so on and so on.
We also have to wait to sit people if there are more than 6 people to a group and only enough have shown up for one table. For sizes of 6 or more people we have to give two to three tables, but if there are only enough for just one table then they will have to wait until the rest show up otherwise we would have an empty table just sitting there while we could have sat another group while the first party was waiting for their friends. There have been many occasions where there is a party of 7 but only 4 or 5 (enough for one table) have shown up and we gave them two tables but the rest of their group did not show up for at least 20-30 more minutes and we could have sat and fed another group during that time. We also used to have around 20 people waiting outside to get in and they would wait around 40 minutes. We have managed to bring this number down to around 6 people waiting outside and the waiting time down to about 10-20 minutes because of our seating arrangements.
While we do understand your situation, we also have to ask our customers to understand ours as well in that we have very limited tables and therefore we try very hard to do the very best we can especially during our peak hours between 6:45 – 9:00 P.M.
As for being crowded, our response to this is that we are not a typical family restaurant, we are in fact a Pizzeria which is very similar to a cafe and / or diner in America which is very loud, tight fitting, crowded and fast food. By no means are we an up-scale dining establishment. In fact orginally we did not want any tables at all, instead we were going to install counters where everyone would have to stand at to eat. Most pizzerias only have either one counter or 3-5 tables at most since most of the business is either delivery or take away.
We trust this explains a little more of why we operate the way we do, coning into MichelangelO’s Pizzeria is suppose to be a little more than just the food, it is also suppose to be a bit of an experience, to come to a place that operates the same way it would in the US in a city like Chicago and / or some paces in New York City. We do not practice fusion nor do we try to Malaysianize our store in any way, we want the whole experience to be as close to the real thing as if you were actually in the States.

Loud dining in America? By that I hope you’re referring to a bar or Mexican restaurant that only caters to Mexicans. (Although most taquerías that I’d patronised in the past proved to be quiet and quite decent compared to the usual Malaysian restaurants and kopi tiams.) I’ve been in enough restaurants stateside to know that white people mostly like to dine in peace, as opposed to being pounded by obnoxious rap, trashy techno, or tarty music like Rihanna, Lady Gaga, or, urgh, SNSD. It’s only back in Malaysia, and only in recent times that people start to shift from pleasant and conversational dining to utterly dismal “ecstasy themed” and/or karaoke dining. Now, I have to admit, I don’t really know many places to eat in Ipoh, being a reluctant resident of Taiping. (Yes, facepalm.) And I certainly haven’t had the chance to step inside Michelangelo’s. Still, the pictures above have already sold your place. I can’t wait to check it out. But seriously, keep the music volume low enough so people don’t have to raise their voice. Pizza is not viking food. People shouldn’t have to slam their jugs on the table and cry out their lungs to be heard. Loud music (especially karaoke) is also out of place in a family oriented restaurant, mainly because, well, it cause deafness, for one, and secondly, pizzas are very dry and too much of it can cause sore throat. Now imagine if you have to talk loudly (over the loud music) the whole evening, and down too many slices of that dry pizza, now what should happen the next day? Exactly.

I would hope you will let me address your comments above, first yes we do play our music a bit louder than most places here, though not “so” loud you can not talk, but yes you will have to talk a bit louder than normal. The places you have have visited in America I am sure were very nice “family” style “restaurants”. We however are a “fast-food” Rock n Roll place and there are very man places in the States that do in fact play very loud music. Take for instance: Ed Debevic’s in Chicago and L.A. (you wait more than an hour to get inside and there is even a loud DJ and waters dance on tables) there is Paul’s Pizzeria in Decater and Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywood as well as the Starlite Diner and many other places. In the states we have many types from very silent to extreme loud.
Secondly we have never played Lady Gaga or Rihanna, our music is either piped in over the internet from the US playing Classic Rock from the 60′s to the early 90″s or retro of the 80′s. Or we hand picked the songs and play them there. In fact we are one of the only places in Ipoh you will have the chance to hear some of this type of music or variety.
As for pizza being “dry and too much of it can cause a sore throat” not sure where you been eating your pizzas, but pizzas should never be dry nor cause a sore throat, sore mouth yes from the cheese being too hot and out pizzas are cooked at 750 degrees F.
Lastly as stated on here or other posts when we play the music up, there is actually a lot of research and reasons that go into it and we were very careful in making that choice., A bit of business by the way, the facts are when we have played the music at a softer level sales were actually down and when played at a louder level the sales actually are on average considerably higher than when not. Not while most people may just brush that off and say they do not believe it, but there is a lot of market research that shows that as well and what owner would ever want to “drive his/her sales down”
We hope you will stop by if you have not and please do feel free to sstand on the counter and dance to a song, we do in fact give free pizzas to customers who are willing to stand up there and dance – seriously, looking forward to meeting you. P.S. I am an American who grew up in Chicago.

The staff told us that they cannot join the table because their so called American boss does not allowed so . Told them and explain that we do not wish to sit on separate table, then the staff went into the kitchen and ask someone for permission to join the table. Out come a chubby indian cook and pretended to be a big shot mafia and told us that their boss la la la and so so so. We got disgusted and left. By the way the pizza over there is sloppy and bacon look like its steam more than oven baked. Please do not pretend to be anything american if clearly you cant be. I am sorry you had such a terrible experience at our establishment. However if you were seated at one of the three corner tables, our staff was correct in seating 5 people there. We have been opened for business for about 2.5 years now and have literally sat hundreds of tables of 5 at those tables. If however it is a very slow night or right after opening or before closing and we are not crowded we can then join the two tables together. While I fully understand your complaint, we do take into consideration family size, the actual size of people and if it is too tight we will then join two tables. However more times than not there is room (yes it is slightly tight) for 5 people but some still want more room. While we would love to be able to accommodate everyone, we simply cannot. We have very limited seating and we need to move tables during rush hours in order to turn a profit which in truth is part of the reason we are in business. Therefore we do need to manage our tables. While the “majority’ of our customers are understanding and satisfied with that, there are some that do not or will not understand. All we can do is apologize and hope they can understand, but we are not always able to please everyone every time.
As for the place being American and the “so called American Boss” we all I can say is I was born and raised in America from 1967 until I graduated university and am living in Malaysia now since 1999. Our place if based off a a Chicago concept of a neighborhood pizzeria, not a upper-scale family restaurant., We are a fast food establishment and do try to give everyone a good and happy time there.
We do thank you for your comment however and as always will consider what you have posted and will hope that one day you will stop back in and try to please you again later, you may also ask for me anytime you wish and I’ll make sure that staff lets me know so I can meet with you and try to please your experience there if you ever do choose to come back.
