White Cafe?! Beats me. But clearly, the shop that popularized white coffee was Sin Yoon Loong, the corner lot still standing after that many years. Nam Heong came later, but was responsible in introducing white coffee to the world, literally.

Sorry, no longer in Ipoh, hence researching into subjects like this will be harder. But interesting for you to bring this up, as I believe that people DO need to know the origin instead of trusting a single source. Let me try getting my ways around this.

i think we should set the record straight somehow now, since Ipoh White Coffee is such an international brand now. i have foreigners telling me, from Ipoh, the "true" origin story about about Ipoh White Coffee (which is now selling in Singapore hawker centres) based on the story in that franchise website, which gives the impression that Ipoh White Coffee got it's name from a place called White Cafe back in 1958!!? Whoever heard of 2 townships called Ipoh and OldTown, or the White Cafe classic coffee shop in Ipoh???

Thanks.

I guess they could be referring to their origin back in the days. Sin Yoon Loong has existed since the 40's or 50's if I am not wrong.
They were brewing coffee since back then, though the term 'white' coffee just surfaced not too long ago.

Hey, do you know what the OldTown White Coffee franchise wrote about the origin of Pak Ko Pi in their corporate website? see http://www.oldtown.com.my/ product|our legacy. it started in 1958!! i don't think anybody in Ipoh ever heard of Pak Ko Pi until the late 80's or early 90's.

Haha ... very elaborate comment, and well said. I faced 'almost' the same problem with egg tarts too, but at another place in town.
But I settled things MY way. :)

And when the tarts were finally out she gave my order to the person after me leaving me with one box and when i complain the lady had the cheek to say that i should have told her i was before the other guy. Come on.. do i look like i work there. How'd i know who is before who. There were so many ppl standing ard there. Then another aunty working there raised her voice saying "So do you want this last box or not now?!" My fried next to me said back to the lady " Lei so ah?! Tan dou kom loy, Kang hai hai yew la!". But at least, when we paid the 1st lady who took my order apologised.

Nam Heong is on Jalan Bandar Timah; the last shop on the row before you reach the 20 storey flats. You can see the flats from further away since old town does not have many high rise buildings.
