Firefly Flies the Ipoh-Singapore Route! Come to Ipoh for some Hong Kee egg tarts?
May 30, 2009 | 5,646 views Flight schedule taken from Firefly’s website
Tickets are priced at RM89.95+ for a one way trip, and an all-inclusive two-way tickets will set you aback at RM344.90. No comparison head to head with other airlines, as neither Air Asia nor MAS operates on the Ipoh route.
But given the mere 1 hour plus ride, and safety profile, you’d probably be saying your prayers now, after countless joyrides/nightmare-ish experiences on midnight bus rides, about 5-6 hours give or take (read : depending on the hellacious/angelic driver on board!). There are a few bus companies serving the Ipoh-Singapore route, from Sri Maju to Grasslands and such, and tickets are priced at RM50+. (It’s been some time since I’ve been to Singapore, so please pardon the outdated information)
HONG KEE EGG TARTS @ JLN COCKMAN aka JLN DATO ONN JAAFAR

Hmmm…hong kee’s egg tarts? sounds familiar…
Is it at the new town? Near mcdonalds and the Pasar Besar?

Good job of promoting Ipoh tourism with a post like this !
I hope each of them spend at least Rm500 here ! hahaha !
[Reply]
Seriously, I want to visit Ipoh! 🙂
[Reply]
Oh dear, I best bring my alarm clock when I visit Ipoh else I won’t wake early enough before all the egg tarts are snapped up! 🙂
[Reply]
my favourite egg tarts in ipoh is either the one in simee or the one in town. 🙂
[Reply]

Bakeling : hahaha … let’s hope they really rebrand Ipoh as a tourism heaven. or at least a stopover.
Selba : seriously? 🙂
LFB : you’d better be. but of course, wake later and satisfy your cravings for chee cheong fun, curry mee and such also ok.
NKOTB : i prefer the simee one though. maybe used to having them, in comparison to this one.
Tummythoz : me? nah … far from it. I cant even manoeuvre my way around sometimes.

I have yet to try Hong Kee egg tarts even though there is an outlet quite near to my place!! Must try it when I’m back to KL. I have read so many positive comments about it.
[Reply]
I somehow prefer this than Choy Kee. Maybe my mom mistakenly tahpau the tarts from another vendor in the market, I found them rather ordinary.
[Reply]
very nice foodblog u have here. the ipoh-sg route too bad currently no other takers eg airasia etc. Otherwise might bring down the price 🙂
[Reply]
hmm….. I will try both egg tart that you recommend when i go to Ipoh. ^-^
[Reply]
Both are equally good. Will get it from the shop nearest to my location.
[Reply]
KCA : hhahah … money for me? =P
Sugar Bean : oh, there’s an outlet in KL? thats cool. even Simee never ventured so far.
jason : to each his own i guess. this one also mum tapau home, then i ate after few hours. which may degrade the experience slightly.
bluesoule : true. lets see if Firefly will hold promotion, zero fare or such to entice the crowd.
Food Paradise: be sure to tell which one you fancy!
ck lam : simee market a bit off actually. and have to go real early.
[Reply]

Food as a way to promote Tourism, you’re a genius. Someone wise once said, a man’s heart is through his stomach. I’d say … food get’s through to EVERYONE’s heart and … stomach.

Hi J2Kfm,
Hey, just noticed your new blog layout…Nice one:)
I used to buy egg tarts from this shop for my Piggies until they found one that has a crispy tart shell..the one opposite Hall of Mirror (Khong Heng) but I still prefer this one.. more authentic :)))
Keep up the good work here. Love your blog and I am not going to say it again. 😛
[Reply]
Timothy : how true. let’s concentrate on the food, THEN the attractions in Ipoh!
Elin : thanks Elin. you’ve been supporting my blog since the very beginning lah … heheh …
[Reply]
"hahaha … let's hope they really rebrand Ipoh as a tourism heaven. or at least a stopover" ..
yeah..if they could stop bickering politically & focus on Ipoh/Perak, it deserves so much more than be labelled an "old" town…
[Reply]
I think it’s more worth it to fly from Ipoh to Singapore. KL by bus only uses 4 1/2 hour. Fly is 45 mins but go airport already took 1 hour. Not to mention have to be there 1 hour earlier to check in.
[Reply]
thenomadGourmand : yeahloh, wonder if the world knows Perak more as a state for tourism, or a zoo in general.
Simon : KL nearer to Singapore ma. but the ride may be better on a plane, safer?

Hi kell, you know where is Yin Onn Pharmacy?
This is exactly opposite of it. A corner shop, painted in green (if I remember correctly).
