Same Roast Duck. Different Maestros. Different Place.

Canning Garden Roast Duck

The famous Canning Garden Crispy Roast Duck from Hong Kong Restaurant has now relocated to Ting Feng Restaurant in Ipoh Garden East.

A short update on some changes I have seen in Ipoh last weekend. Inevitably, some eateries bear the brunt of losing out to new competitors, some suffered from the demoralizing effect from mass commercialization, while the others remain defiant. Unwilling to adopt the paradigm shift approach in modernizing their original values/prospects.

And these outlets are best regarded as … the timeless classics.

Canning Garden roast duck has been around for ages; and high chance of them being the ONLY halal roast duck outlet in all of Ipoh back then.

Even then, there will come a day when Madam Heng herself decides to embrace in the pleasure of taking the back seat; and passing the torch to the chosen one(s). In this case, she has closed down her original place; that landmark of a coffee shop beside the Canning Garden field, and moved to a new restaurant named Ting Feng in Ipoh Garden East. Difference is …. this outlet is now run by her son, daughter-in-law and her brother ……

The New Generation

The Thai-Chinese duo now helm the stall with Madam Heng’s son. But they started serving pork now. The 3 layered milk tea with palm sugar syrup (gula melaka) is nicked Teh C Special; a Sarawakian pride.

The crispy roast duck was slightly below par that afternoon; but more or less expected as explained by her son;

“The rainy weather and damp environment has affected the drying process ….. making the ducks not as crispy and the fats underneath the skin lending a greasy finish to the ducks”

Char Siew (Roast Pork)

Barbecued pork (char siew) with a sweet, sticky sauce. A new venture for them, since the original outlet has never served pork in Canning Garden.

Thai Crispy Waxed Sausages

Crispy Thai waxed sausages (lap cheong) that had a close resemblance to the Chinese version here but crispy at the edges, with a slight transparent appearance and with a smoky flavour.

Still, the moment we were there, tucking in into the feast of glorious roasted meats, her fans from all walks of life pushed their luck and waltzed in …. expecting a piece of good news as proudly advertised in front of the shop;

“Canning Garden Crispy Roast Duck opens on 1.11.2011“

And yes, Madam Heng still oversees the whole process and running of the stall. But then again….. she believes that her faith has been well put, and the time is nigh for a well-deserved rest.

The original premise at Canning Garden has now been taken over by another person; not related to Madam Heng’s venture at all. Soon enough (within this month or the next), they plan to expand to another stall in town, at the restaurant named Paris on Hugh Low Street where the famous Hakka mee stall is located at.

And that … could be the start of a new legacy; continuing hers from the days of yore.

    Yeah, Thai style Chinese sausages. I believe you can find some in southern Thailand; ie: Haadyai.

    I believe what you composed was actually very logical.
    But, consider this, what if you added a little content?

    I ain’t suggesting your content isn’t solid, but what if you added a title that
    grabbed folk’s attention? I mean Canning Garden Famous Crispy Roast Duck @ Ting Feng Restaurant, Ipoh Garden East | Motormouth From Ipoh – Malaysian Food & Travel is kinda plain. You could peek at Yahoo’s home page and
    watch how they create post titles to grab viewers interested.
    You might add a video or a picture or two to grab
    readers excited about everything’ve written. Just my opinion, it would make your website a little bit more interesting.

    I’m amazed, I must say. Seldom do I encounter a blog that’s both educative
    and amusing, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head.
    The problem is something which not enough men and women are speaking intelligently about.

    I am very happy I came across this in my hunt for something relating
    to this.
