A Sunny Sunday & Big Breakfast @ Departure Lounge, Damansara Uptown
April 3, 2011 | 25,989 viewsUnlike the OTHER more famous and commercialized BIG Breakfast from McD, the ones at Departure Lounge are REALLY satisfying and customizable; from 3 to 5 to 7 items (RM8.90, RM11.90, RM13.90) though do NOT come with a complimentary cup of coffee.
SUNDAY~!!!! In a flash. Yet I am revelling in Every. Single. Second of It. Can’t blame me for trying to squeeze every moment since this weekend’s been LOOOOOOONNNNGGG overdue.
Thus, what better way to kickstart a lovely Sunday with a hearty breakfast (or brunch, as I know most of you prefer to stay in bed and wake up much later than usual …), than at Departure Lounge; a place that serves all day breakfasts in Damansara Uptown. They first started in Solaris Mont Kiara, but that’s way off for me so Uptown’s the way to go.
Unlike the original outlet in Mont Kiara, this one packs a simpler, cleaner layout with less ornaments and nooks and corners with fancy details. To each his own I guess, but I would have preferred a more comfy ambience with more plush couches than this sparingly-designed interior.
Hot Chocolate (RM6/USD2)
Flat White (RM8/USD2.40) with interesting coffee art; a monkey face. Probably to suit the drinker.
British Breakfast Tea with honey.
3 Items (RM8.90/USD3) – Choose from about 10 options to satisfy your cravings, you can have up to 7 items at one go, but go easy if you’re not a heavy eater in the mornings.
And I knew 7 items were not enough to try out everything, but at least I tried. (RM13.90/USD4.60) – Pancake, scrambled eggs, hash brown, turkey bacon, turkey ham, grilled tomate, toast with butter and jam and 2 fish fingers.
You can choose from the rather extensive breakfast menu with various gourmet sandwiches, bagels with salmon, cream cheese, etc, salads, toasts, and such. Bear in mind that this place prides itself on the BREAKFAST menu. Hence don’t expect steaks, fish & chips or chops. Or even pastas for that matter.
I was happy with my 7 items portion, the pancake was surprisingly good, even better than Gelare’s waffles (the one at e@Curve), with a side of maple syrup. The pan fried stuff (bacon, ham) and hash brown were rather greasy, but of course…. satisfying.
Come on, you only get ONE Sunday in a week. Hence there’s NO reason NOT to indulge. Ahem. Bad advice, coming from someone who’s eating like nobody’s business 7 days a week huh? 🙂

All day breakfast. That’s the ONLY thing they serve. Aside from various sandwiches, salads, etc.

Haha … you were expecting some leaves, petals, flowers or motives right?
Me too. Until I saw the wicked side of it.
Jonathan would be pleased.

Its been ages I’ve been there. A must revisit:D
And must try the pancakes. Gelare’s waffles are superb. Can’t say the same about their pancakes.

The coffee art is genius! Although I’m not saying that it suits you 😛 Breakfast does look really hearty with a reasonable price. Would love to try it out someday!

yeah…. some more it’s not damn far for any of us. Maybe you guys can consider giving me a lift while on the way there come Sunday morning? 🙂

Liked that it didn’t cost my right arm for a fry-up here. Didn’t like that they didn’t have another alternative to unsalted butter for the toast – but we made do by sprinkling salt right into the butter before spreading it. Genius!

Haha …. unsalted ah? I did not notice much since I spread the scrambled eggs and sliced bacon on top.

Ben, do not use this as a platform to vent your personal frustration. Hence I have deleted your other comment made under a different pseudonym. Please be professional and only critic the food or services if you need to.

J, i am giving my personal opinion and i dont feel frust at all. If the owner pay or bribe you to write only good things please let the reader know. The food is lousy and i can cook better and cheaper.Furthermore beatiful interior and decoration doesnt mean a thing if the food is dirty. You all will notice the kitchen is close and nobodycan see and knew whether nose shit or any saliva from the chef had been put on your food.Once we went there and we agreed it taste like shit and the chef say it behind our back as the former staff told us..If what i say was not true why did the kitchen was not visible like other restaurant? Do you knew the background of the owner or you just judge by looking at their wealth?

Ben, I don’t even know the owner. Let alone paid or bribed.
And you’re being very immature here by using this blog to vent your personal frustration.
If the food is not up to your standard then yes, you can comment. But stop making personal attacks online, that’s plain childish.
For your information do you see more open kitchen in Malaysia, or closed one? Think about this before talking about saliva and such.

Recommend by a friend to this place.Tried them today and I am very dissapointed especially with the coffee. Dont talk about the taste, there is no aroma of coffee at all! I had the mushroom melt and cappuccino. Oil started to drip from the bread the minute I lifted it even before I had my first bite. I felt disgusted. For sure I will not go there again. Again, I am not trying to discourage people going there. I’m just sharing my experience.
